Honestly As an American I am ashamed that people would even bring up a foreigners english accent. Too many Americans think that everyone who comes here should just 'speak english'.... Or even worse...the americans who visit foreign countries and want THEM to be able to speak english. Instead of learning the native language or preparing before the trip. Honestly alot of Americans have this superiority complex not just about language, not all obviously but ALOT.

He does study Chinese (Mandarin). He even has to, he has moved to China some while ago! XD (Which was kind of a logical step, as he has at least 75% of his performances in China) However, he even said himself, that he hasn't had a lot of spare time in the last year. Apart from the whole music related and media related stuff, he studies Mandarin, especially the Chinese script takes a lot of time, he studies English (but doesn't have that much time for it as he'd like to have), he still has to study for university (he's doing another a postgraduate education) and to take exams, he still has his regular swim training etc...

Leonie Coetzer Dimash is definitively learning mandarin and english; you get to see those proofs on interviews or behind scenes; just check it yourself I'm too lazy to provide links lol. He's a hard working young man, of course he would try and learn more languages. Those last years he gained so much fans from China (thanks to the show The Singer) and then the rest of the world. His biggest dream is to show his country Kazakhstan to the rest of the planet. And yes for professionnal reasons if you want to be successful it's easier to speack mandarin and english.

Just want to comment on how SUPERFICIAL some people can be criticizing his English. He is only 24 years old. He has accomplished more then most people could accomplish in several lifetimes. His stunning singing ability in multiple languages, his instrument mastery of several musical instruments, studying to learn multiple foreign languages, very high marks all through school and college, additional time dedicated to music study from a young age, presently working on his Masters Degree, multiple concerts and appearances to date, sports, family, friends....all while maintaining a wonderful balance of professionalism and humility. I think some people need to go tuck their tails between their legs or crawl under a rock. Seriously!!!!

Seriously, yes, I couldn't possibly agree more. BTW, Dimash is no longer working on his Master's Degree; he graduated almost a year ago. How many of his critics have ever had any training in music or graduated with a Master's degree. He is currently working on his doctorate. It always drives me sad, very, very sad when I read criticisms about Dimash's English. Americans and other native English speakers tend -- almost all of them -- to be arrogant about their English (which many of them are even not capable of spelling or writing impeccably). They do not speak any other languages. If they can say "hola" in Spanish, they think that they speak Spanish! International communication is possible only because we, non-native English-speakers, spend years, and years in learning it.

As a professional I think you would be interested to know that he did a song in kazk as his first song that night. You can hear the last traditional notes in the beginning. The traditional band flew to America to perform. He also dedicated it to his parents and was so proud to represent his culture and country. But all of that was cut out! People that were there have posted that in judges and audience many were crying, it was really emotional. Whole performance was over 6 minutes and it was chopped into 2 minutes. That is show business, understand that but it is sad 😭

OMG! Ken, I agreed from all of what you have said. As far as the English language, shame on people who can't sing different languages left alone speak of Kazakhstan language, and judging Dimash accent? I want to hear them try at least the Russian songs or Mandarin songs. Why is it that every singing performance must be judged by how innunciation the English should sounds like? Remember, Americans are multicultural, and we are trying hard to understand people speaks English at work or to any places we go, and they perform the job best. Sooo...glad you reacted on Dimash song. Thank you Ken.

Carinaejag, so very true. International communication would be impossible if it was let solely to the Americans and other native English speakers. They do not care. Native English speakers do not learn other languages. But we, Europeans, do take years of our time and a lot of effort to learn the English language. I lived in America for a long time, and never met an American who spoke any other languages, except for one university professor who spoke French, but whose pronunciation was terrible to the point of being incomprehensible.

Great reaction. Thanks, Ken. You are awesome too. I agree, in this performance Dimash was "screechy" in a part of it. However, if you watch his song "Sinful Passion" you'll see he's perfectly able to "round" those high pitches - as you suggested. I prefer these round sounds too. It's clear he doesn't want to just sound operatic, but to do a blend of music styles, which is awesome. Looking forward to your future reactions. ✌👌👏👏👏❤

Hey Ken thanks for your great voice and teaching/Educating us all about vocals.. I tell everyone remember it's just a show... They like Controversy. Faith Hill McGraw is a country singer and they don't like all that theatrics like with the Mic and kneeling and arms out. Dimash has a little time to show his techniques so he has to do a lot in a small amount of time :) There are a lot of child prodigies out there :) Dimash is just pushing the Bar Higher like Usain Bolt Sprinter, Williams Sisters in Tennis , and Tiger Wood In Golf all did in their sports :) The Nun was not the World's Best Only The World's Best Nun singer lol They will have many shows if this format makes money for CBS ... Like Rupaul said, He is the REASON for The World's Best to be CREATED :) Waiting for another FREE Vocal Lesson with some history added in :) Hey your not arrogant we see you have a great voice be proud of it.. FACT 2 to 5% of people are TONE DEAF of course there are Jealous people added in... But don't ever let that bother you. I think a little Genetics played a little part in his abilities but like you said His Techniques are perfect and he knows them all :)

A great reaction, as always. Just thinking....., hey, the dreams are for free ... but man, just imagine if you were his mentor, the world would get even more of this talent. And here I am not talking about his voice or his technique. Somehow I know, I feel that this young man carries in itself a new concept of music as music at all, but he needed loving caring and knowledgeable hands served as midwife to the birth of a new more comprehensive works of music. What his parents and teachers have taught him so far is great, but he is ready to grow it over their capabilities and concepts. Thank you man, I love your personality, your attitude, your passion for music, and wish you all the best of everithing!

I will never understand people who bash other's pronunciation. Do you not understand english is not his first language? Unless you can speak 2 language flawlessly, dont be so quick to judge. And if you can, good for you. Hope you do something good with that. Once again, great reaction video Ken. Love your suggestion on the warmer vowel. Your respect for other artist while keeping it educational is very classy.

the first episode was really painful to see Dimash struggling with the ear piece. He must have been sweating bullets.
