As a private collector I have to respectfully disagree, most people who go to muesums today have no real interest in whats there, they just gawk at it and go, and in some countries they just destroy the items regardless. At least with a private collector its more likely to be kept properly and appreciated for what it is.

Screw that! The Smothsonian has a bad history of hiding and/or destroying certain historical items/artifacts that don't fall in line with their preferred version of world and human history. Granted, they probably wouldn't do any such things to these sorts of historical pieces, it's just my opinion that they don't DESERVE to have these amazing pieces of military history, purely because they are in the business of rounding up, buying, or obtaining by whatever means they can, other items with the sole intention of keeping them from being seen by other people. One particular category of such items is the NUMEROUS (I'm talking in the hundreds, at least) skulls, bones, and complete skeletons of VERY large/tall human-oid beings, a lot of which truly fit the tradional and Biblical depictions of what are sometimes referred to as "Giants". Large numbers of complete skeletons, sometimes even having a little hair and soft tissue preserved on them according to some reports, of humans that stood at heights ranging from 8 ft. tall up to around 20 ft. tall, that were found in different parts of the world, a fair amount from right here in America, actually. The Smithsonian has been recovering or purchasing every one they can for years, especially during the 1920's-1940's, when a majority of them appear to have been found and dug up (or maybe that's just the ones that were found when there were still a bunch of privately owned, smaller newspaper companies in operation, and some of them covered and reported such discoveries, so that's the main one's that we can see proof/pictures of 🤷‍♂️) yet, the Smithsonian doesn't display or even acknowledge the existence of all of these abnormally large skeletons/skulls/bones that they forked out large sums of money to obtain. They have even denied that they've ever seen/heard of such items a few times, when questioned about them. There have been at least a couple of Smithsonian employees that have made claims to others over the years, that they had seen and/or took part in the destruction or hiding of such artifacts, as well as other types of of items that don't fit the commonly accepted historical narrative that we are taught. Allegedly, things like those skeletons are crushed and/or ground up in machines like the ones that shred old cars in junkyards, and then whatever is left over afterwards is disposed of, and any other items that are too big/tough/hard/heavy to grind up, are often dumped off of coastal areas into sthe ocean, where people aren't that likely to stumble across, and rediscover them. I don't think any historical artifacts should be hidden or destroyed, no matter how controversial or unsettling their discovery and revelation could potentially be! If things are kept or hidden from the public, no matter what they are, then we really have no way of getting the most accurate picture, ideas, evidence, and beliefs of our human and/or world's history, and what it is that we could/should learn from it all.....

Funny all of these people saying “it should go to a museum to be displayed forever.” None of them realizing how much of this stuff actually exists and are already in museum inventories. Most museums have only a very small amount of what they own displayed many items will be packed away in storage and never see the light of day until they are “inventoried”, stolen, or destroyed to make room for more inventory. This stuff is better off in private collections. Though I do hope the groupings stay together.
