You know what's crazy, each one of those numbers from both sides, every single soldier had a life, family and passions. All sent to die and fight for someone else.

It was essentially a family feud (since nearly all the country leaders were related to each other) of royalty. Peasants die for the wargames of the european royal family.

@@user-ek9vo2ub9bthey were trying to work on that with army slav, I think that was the name. But it also didn’t help that not only with the languages but the command structure system, with 3 armies. The Austrian one, the Hungarian one, and the imperial army which was an empire wide army for unity. So the imperial army was given minimal amount or resources by the crowns and each one focused on their individual armies.

@@BHuang92 I mean surprisingly, the empire ran very well and was exceptionally progressive in terms of ani-discrimination laws after the Austro-Hungarian unification, the may laws are a good example of this, so tbh it probably would work out since the cultures are quite similar and had already built a tolerance for each other and Austrian supremacy had mostly been stamped out, many of them had a pride of being part of the empire, but it was mainly the Czech, Slovak, Hungarian and Croatian peoples who believed this, and ofc Austrians, although the start of the collapse was in bohemia, but I think this is mainly due to it being the most populated part of the empire, but huge parts of the empire were given a high amount of autonomy to the cultures that lived there which is very progressive for the time, so if it survived I wouldn't be surprised if it would have been a beacon of multiculturism in the modern day.

Mr Terry, I will never thank you enough for being this YT version of every good teacher I've had in my life! While clearly coming from an American/western/democratic perspective, you still provide a fair analysis of history that takes into account the different perspective of all belligerents. Thank you again for (it seems) doing your best to educate your watchers without an unfair judgement. ❤

@kylezdancewicz7346 not quite true alot of factions wanted to regain territory lost in the balkan wars also the germans had been training the ottoman army for quite awhile. The bigger suprise was that the otttomans and Bulgarians were allies and didn't attack each other. Which oddly enough the Bulgarians and austro hungarians nearly did get in a conflict over serbia. Which the germans managed to defuse.

@@poil8351 I’m mean if you think about it the Bulgarians and ottomans had the same motivates to regain what they lost from the Balkan wars. And that’s kinda why the young Turks were pretty unique because the obvious option for them to regain territory would be to go to war with the central powers for Bulgaria because Bulgaria has Balkan claims on most of what the Turks want and at best the Turks are allowed Greece, but even Bulgaria has claims on Greece.

I really recommend an anime/manga about this war. Saga of Tanya the Evil. I like the novel and manga more since the anime make the MC look like a war monger when all he really want is to retreat to the back line and lose in peace since he known the future. The mage in the series is the one to one to famous striker like red baron, the MC him self is the founder of Silver Wings. The politic is simplified and mostly only care about the tactics. Really great read if you are WW1-WW2 nerd

The central powers still lose even with a later American entry because the Americans were practically bankrolling the allies by the end of the war so they would want to ensure they got their money back and Germany had generally been upsetting the American populace and by the end it was just Germany and they had been fighting hard for the entire war and it’s much more likely they surrender before the entente. But it would possibly lead to a better negotiating position for Germany so a slightly less harsh treaty. And if the war started earlier then France is in a-lot more trouble but they stopped the Germans in real life so it wouldn’t be too crazy to assume they hold the Germans off long enough for British reinforcements and allow Russian to finish their mobilization as this earlier start could remove months of secret Russian mobilization but in the grand scheme of the war it probably won’t make much of a difference because Germany is likely to be halted in France and even a few extra months wouldn’t be enough to break the French by then.

Sort of it was a mix of career soliders and volunteers. The former were basically full time professionals who were in the army before the war started and the latter were volunteers who joined on the outbreak of war. Also intresting Is that Australian navy was still technically a part of the Royal navy in ww1 it was not completely independent and still under British control. It was really just before ww2 that the Australian navy became a fully independent organisation not dependent on the royal navy.
