This thing flew directly over my house this August. I ran down the street screaming obscenities like a mad man and I think my neighbors think Im insane now 😂 That airplane made my year! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it. The sound that makes at a low altitude is insane!

Fifi is so valuable, so precious and made even more so because she still stretches her wings.
My grandfather piloted a B-29 and was part of that final 828 bomber campaign at the end of the war over Japan. I can't even imagine 800 of these....😳 He was a member of the "Hellbirds" 462nd bombardment group.
Before commenting about DOC, please keep in mind this video was posted on Jun 23, 2014 when DOC wasn't flying at the time. Thank you and have a fly-tastic day.

We have the Fly In here in Lakeland, Florida. There is no sound like these rare beautiful birds. Could just imagine the sounds of many taking off and defending the USA. Very proud of our Vets. Thank you...
I was privileged to see Fifi and speak with some of her crew members this past weekend at Mercer County Airport in New Jersey. I knew of this Superfortress from so many excellent videos of her on YT. I wasn't prepared for standing in the presence of the aircraft but my impression is that it is a larger-than-life experience. Words cannot suffice. Yesterday afternoon, Sunday June 23, 2019 I watch Fifi start her engines and turn to taxi to the end of the runway. Then I went to the end of the runway across Scotch Rd. to see the B-29 lift gracefully and powerfully into the air to head to Youngstown, Ohio. What an experience!
5:12 B-29 with 747s & 787s in the background... planes from different era meeting each other is badass IMO
I was at a football game for my high school, when that massive plane flew over, I don't think anyone else gave a fuck, but it was pretty cool.

+Milo It's because people don't know what it is, they think it's just a normal aircraft.
Thank you for including the Convair 580 on the video. My Father was part of the Greatest Generation flying P-47 in the Pacific. When he went into commercial aviation he qualified on a twin engine Convair 340 before moving on to the DC-3's, all the way up to the DC-10's upon his retirement as a Capitan, but he always had a VERY soft spot for the Connie's.
Superfortress! In WWII my father was an enlisted specialist on the Central Fire Control system and the Norden Bombsight. He taught aircrews in Texas.
Fantastic! I recall seeing my first B17 flying at that very same airfield last year when I did the tour of the Boeing factory and visited the MoF. It was a fantastic two days!
Simply incredible footage. Thanks for posting this -it is awesome. What a complete beast of a machine (in a good way) created back when they were throwing a lot of spaghetti at the wall and experimenting with designs and innovating for specific purposes. I love the look of that thing.
Excellent camera work on this video. I saw Fifi a few years back at an airshow and watched her takeoff and land and flyover, and this video brings back that thrill! Soon there will be another B-29 flying. Hope to see it too.
I nearly get tears when I see a B-29 depart......................... in 1945 they won the war out west !!! Thank you Paul Tibbetts and crew and Enola Gay.
Gorgeous sound when revving up on runway. What a beauty !
Fifi came to Olympia a few years ago for the Father's Day weekend. We could board her for $5 but they weren't doing flyovers or given rides because she got a flat tire on landing. You can't get B-29 tires at you local shop so it had to be ordered. It was exciting to board a piece of history.
One fantastic old war bird.....just love it!!
What a beautiful aircraft !! Thanks for keeping her flying
poetry in motion American badass bird. this ship is why we have WiFi and grocery stores . we owe all of our American lives to the men who flew and lost their lives or lived to tell about it. incredible machine with a pedigree that shall never be forgotten.
Awesome! Both planes - the Convair, too! -should be preserved forever!
The CAF was headquartered in my hometown of Harlingen, TX from 1968 until 1991, so growing up, I got to see Fifi and many other WWII aircraft in flight many times. I sure miss getting to see that incredible collection of vintage aircraft on a regular basis. Fifi is one magnificent bird!
She flew over our plant in Chesterfield Missouri a few months ago. She was very low we got a good look at her. There is a smaller airport there where she landed. We went over and saw her on the ground....AWESOME CRAFT !
Love the B-29. I've never seen FiFi. Doc flies over my house all the time. I live 1/2 mile from the Doc Hanger and Education Center here in Wichita, Kansas. I have lots of pictures of Doc flying over my house.
If you have never witnessed this aircraft in flight, you should. The sound of those radial engines are amazing! Puts goose bumps on me.

Excellent footage of Fi Fi. I was in that plane back in the 90's when it was parked at Salem Oregon Airport.
Wow, what a great catch! Its amazing that this plane still fly's, great work as always!!!
Great post! Without a bomb load this thing jumps into the air.
I love B-29's one of my favorite Aircraft..
It's really sad to realize that many historical planes were chopped up for scrap. One being the flying wing. History lost ...only memories. Very sad...thanks for restoring a piece of history.

Spring of 2017 I watched both FiFi and Doc fly over us in formation just south of the DFW metro area. A sight to behold.
FIFI's next stop was Boise. I caught a ride there and sat just behind the pilot. The fare was NOT cheap but I wouldn't have missed the experience for anything. Just pure fun!
Beautiful aircraft. Got to see her live in 1986 when stationed at Shepherd's AFB for Aircraft Maintenance school.
I got to see her at the Mercer County Airport outside Trenton, New Jersey, on June 23, 2019. Seeing your video made me think of how it's almost been a year. When FIFI was prepping to fly off to Youngstown, Ohio, a few of us fence watchers went to the end of the runway to watch the B-29 takeoff. I did get a video of FIFI coming into the frame, flying overhead and heading west toward the setting sun.
Sounds like 36 Harleys running in sync! Awesome Aircraft!
Amazing! Nice catch! Great to see this rare bird :)

We would have 3 if the Kee Bird hadn't burned due to a careless hurried attempted take off, with an auxiliary generator not strapped down. It fell over spilling gasoline which ignited and it burned the plane down to a pile of molten aluminum losing 4 brand new engines in the process It was a total loss.

just like in England and Canada where they have airworthy Lancaster bombers its good to see a B-29 still flying ! by preserving history we can see how far we have come and also remember those brave pilots and crew that flew these great aeroplanes into great danger so that future generations might live in freedom.
I got to see it up front and personal when it was in my city, amazing bird and hard to believe how tight it is inside
thunder rides the clouds in this great video and I had an EPIC Like-SLAP!
I used to live in Houston, Texas just a short distance from the end of one of Ellington Air Bases main runways. Used to go to the "Wings Over Houston" Air Show every year. It was called the Confederate Air Force back then. You always knew when FiFi came in for a rare appearance, you could hear her engines at altitude, kind of a low vibration in your chest. Beautiful aircraft. When I was a kid my mom used to have a hair stylist that was Japanese, she had been 6 years old living in a small village outside Tokyo during WW2, I think she said she was 6 years old at the height of it. When we were talking about it she had said that when the large flights of B-29s would come in to bomb the city they felt it, they didn't need radar to know what was coming. She never actually saw the planes, the bombs would just start exploding.
So cool that there's two now. There are two other Lancasters that will be airworthy soon and a third on its way. So exciting. I would give anything to hear them ALL doing a flyover. Can you imagine!
Amazing!Go Fifi!
I've never seen "FiFi", but remember when I was much younger driving past O"Hare Field on Route 45 with my Dad and seeing the Enola Gay parked next to one of the military hangers. Dad told me what the plane was, but since I was only about 7 or 8 years old, I remembered it most because of the big circled "R", on the tail. I liked that it had the same last initial as me!
I was born in 1947. And around 1953 I saw these awesome birds at March AFB, located in Riverside, CA. It was a SAC base at that time. I have a love affair with the B-29 and the radial engines of that time period and before.
She is on beautiful bird, the 1st and only time I ever saw her was in '86, and the B-29 has been my favorite airplane ever since, I remember when I saw her, many of the WWII pilots and crew were still alive and they all had their stories to tell but I was a kid, I listened a good bit but I let the machines take too much of my attention and so I missed out on some stories that can never be heard again, I do consider myself extremely lucky to have been able to speak to some of the old WWII pilots who flew these birds, it wasn't something anyone should have to do and it was obvious that none of them took much pleasure in having to do it but I appreciate every one of them for what they did. That said, I would give anything if Kee Bird had not been destroyed in that act of neglect, if only they had waited one more season, FiFi, Kee Bird and Doc would have been a beautiful sight sitting together on the Tarmac but FiFi and Doc will make a great pair too, I wonder if they'll strip and polish FiFi to match Doc or if they''ll leave her as she is?

I suspect Fifi and Doc will maintain their individualities about them when Doc returns to the air. After all, there's long since been any need for them to have a uniform appearance, now is there. The benefits of an old war gal flying retired

What a Beauty! Got to go inside this plane back in the 80's. Saw the Vertical Fin as I was driving through Van Nuts airport!, made a U-turn to check it out. Sat in operaters seat et all. Also rode on B-17 909 years later. Very Sad that it ( 909) crashed recently with Souls on board! 😔
