on JackSucksAtGeography we upload a range of easy to watch geography related games. We mainly play Sporcle games like "naming all 197 countries". I successfully learned all 197 countries and plan to learn more Geography trivia. On this channel I also play Geoguessr. This is a game that uses Google Street View to drop you in a random location and you have to work out exactly where you are on the worldwide map. Geoguessr was created in 2013. If you want to see more from Jack he uploads different content to many other KZread channels, linked above!

Jack: you read “intentional neglect” as “international neglect”. The Czech Republic solved the Tree infestation by letting it spread and run rampant until it died out, whereas Germany managed to stop the spread when it first happened

On the Sweden Norway Bridge border: During the start of the pandemic Norway closed its borders to Sweden and even when the restrictions were eased you would still have to quarantine. However in April of 2020 a photo went viral in Norway of a pair of 71 year old twin brothers sitting on either side of the border on that exact bridge drinking coffee and having a chat. The twins, Ola and Pontus, are originally from Sweden but Ola has been living in Norway since 1983. They are best friends and couldn't stand not seeing each other so they agreed to meet at this bridge; gamle Svinesundsbroa. Neither twin lived far from the bridge so they would meet on it every Saturday at 11, maintaining 2 meters of distance and with strict orders from the soldiers patrolling the border of not hugging each other. They brought food and chairs and would sit there and talk for a few hours no matter the weather, on their birthdays they brought presents but were not allowed to exchange them so it was purely symbolic. They kept this up for 18 months until finally Ola could walk across the border to hug his brother Pontus without having to quarantine or get tested. They then drove and got pancakes. I just think it is a very wholesome story about this bridge and the border and hope whomever took the time to read it thinks so too

"For some reason" if you're wondering why Baarle is so divided: Basically it is the result of a number of medieval treaties, agreements, land-swaps and sales between the Lords of Breda and the Dukes of Brabant. The story goes that in 1198, Henry I the Duke of Brabant gave over some marshland (Baarle was all marshland in the 12th century) to Godfried of Schoten, the Lord of Breda. Henry kept the lands that were paying him a rent. The area that Henry kept is now Belgian. The area that he gave to Godfried...is now Dutch. And the rest is history

Since you're wondering why the sands on the Israel-Egypt border are so different, here's something from NASA that explains it: "The different colors of the land surface are the result of trampling by humans and their livestock. Trampling disturbs the dark-colored soil crusts on the Egyptian side of the border, allowing lighter-colored dune sand beneath the crusts to be exposed by winds" Another thing about that border is you can also see exactly where the borders of Gaza are

That first one with the volleyball match was taken in 2007 during the last time they did it. Volleyball was a tradition of the two Nacos from 1979 to 2007. It all ceased in 2007 when the fence between them got taller (understandably so). After that match the two communities held hands to show while they may be divided by a fence, they will forever be ONE Naco

Sometimes borders are noticeable within countries. I used to drive to Maryland often, and when you cross from West Virginia to Maryland the interstate’s pavement suddenly totally changes. It turns to a red color and is much nicer maintenance. :) Your Spain/Portugal photo reminded me.

What's wrong with our country being dark? It's called saving electricity, and more people should be doing it as their part to make a difference In regards to Haiti, Haiti's environmental problems also has to do with France. When France colonized Saint-Domingue (now Haiti), they destroyed the soil by aggressively harvesting the same crops over and over again. Over the course of fifty years, a quarter of the colony was all coffee with the original forests cleared. They were also forced to export timber as part of paying off 90 million francs as compensation to France. This left a lasting impact

At night, the divide was clear because the America side had white lights and the Mexico side had yellow ones.

#28, Austria's side of the mountain ridge is a north face and Slovenia's side is a south face, The south face gets more sunlight, thus the snow melts more quickly. That's why, as a skier, the north face of a mountain usually has noticeably different skiing conditions.
