This is framed incorrectly. OpenAI obviously has to comply to since they also want to operate in the EU, it therefore does not disproportionately affect European companies. Furthermore, the inclusion of copyright compliance is just a proper application of preexisting law. None of the articles will fundamentally limit the rollout of AI in a technological sense, it will simply allow for more transparency and protection of citizens.

There is criminally little coverage on European news outlets about what the EU is brewing. Due to this, nobody knows what is going on, and thus nobody can voice their opinions. This AI law seems harmless, but there are other examples where things went downhill. I think the people in the parliament think they know better, and they don't even want the feedback. There should be news articles, opinion polls, discussions. People should be able to voice their opinions and contribute. Of course companies too, in some cases the laws restrict companies also a lot, makes me wonder if the lobbying is working. Take the supplement legislation, for example. No supplement company can practically make any claims whatsoever in the label, LOL. The law is so strict. Should be backed by some hard core scientific paper for the exact same dose on the milligram. And I mean reasonable, well known things about the supplements, such as caffeine makes you more awakeful. I think it that is a suffocating way of legislation. Like the mother that sanitizes everything, and the children become allergic to everything and weak.

@@jaysonp9426 The EU is not regulating away any progress. Have you even read the contents of the AI Act? Its about security first and foremost. "Progress" does not involve violating copyright, it does not involve violating human rights and anyone to argue that violating such core principles is necessary for "progress" to be made, is a fool.
