World's Largest Floating Crane Arrives in New York

Feb. 27 (Bloomberg) -- The world's largest floating crane, the Left Coast Lifter, has arrived in NY to work on the $3.9 billion bridge that will replace the Tappan Zee. We take a look at the crane that is as long as a 30-story building is tall and can hoist 1,900 tons in a single heave. (Source: Bloomberg)

The largest floating cranes in the world are the Heerema Thialf and the Saipem 7000. They each have two cranes capable of lifting 7000 tons and are normally used for offshore oil and gas platform installation. The crane in this video only lifts 1800 tons; it's relatively small by the standards of the offshore oil industry.

Yeah...even the Asian Hercules can lift 3,500 tons.....it was right before this video...lifting a 3,000 ton bow section for Mearsk...!

I worked with Saipem's Castoro Sei in 82 in Denmark and saw the Hermod .Heerema and Saipem' s more modern offshore construction vessels could lift this out of the water. Not forgetting Pioneering Spirit, But,I retired in 86 ftom offshore work.

Absolutely true. The Dutch floating crane known as the Thialf is capable of lifting over 14,000 tons, or over 7 times the capacity of this crane.

Right now there are two floating vessels in the world that are capable of lifting 14,000 metric tons. So get your facts straight. The Left Coast Lifter is tiny in comparison.

That’s not even a midsized crane in the offshore industry. You don’t even need to compare it to Thialf or Saipem; there are plenty of work ships with normal mast cranes that can lift more than that. There are even land-based crawler cranes that can lift more than that.

Tialf, Siapan 2 and Asian Hercules 3 are far larger to date. Left Coast Lifter is medium sized in the world of the super heavy lift cranes. Tialf broke the world heavy lift record at 12500 tonnes (that's the bigger metric tons) between its pair of 7000 tonne capacity booms. Damn click bait Bloomberg. The Tialf and Siapan 2 are so massive they can't move under the Vans Narrows bridge without first removing their superlifts.

Yeah, This how fake news, little research, little thought of the of the program complete story and volumed up goofy music usually drowning out the narration of this video and others fail to incorporate. At the beginning; Who are the proud builders, the construction date and time, the sea Crane's owners, the cost of construction and maybe a general cost of the crane's service's, the weights and dimensions and lift capacity in American or Metric, make up your mind on just one. Oh, I wonder what the name is? Again, no narration that you may have to stop what you are doing and read the story lines. If you are lucky you might hear the narration over a goofy sound track by a deaf and dumb sound engineer. I wonder if the person okayed this incomplete video cashed their check, instead send their check to me. TD Atlanta
