    AWESOME RECIPE MAN THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH. I have never made chilli before and my mom asked me if I could make some with our ground beef, so I found this, and I didn't follow the recipe "exactly" but just put in whatever spices we had that seemed like they would taste good...... My 6 yr/o brother LOVED it. Thank you so much for bringing us this recipe!

    Cool recipe! I make chili in a variety of ways. Usually I add chili beans and kidney beans. I like to puree yellow and orange bell peppers and I add them to the onion and ground beef. (I do this with my meatloaf too.) Sometimes I even add V8 juice to my chili and it gives it a whole other flavor.

    Used your directions with red kidney beans and tweaks on the seasoning amounts and it tastes great. You're right, it will definitely thicken up and I love thick chili.

    Just made it! Amazing. To be fair, I took the base ideas of the chili then made it work for what I had in the kitchen: 500g of mince, 2 small onions, 0.5 green + 0.5 red pepper, 1 tin black beans, 1 tin kidney beans, 0.5 can tomato puree, 2 small diced tomatoes, Tip of a teaspoon of garlic, BBQ spices to dry marinate the mince, Assorted curry powders to taste (especially for the broth, instead of just water), etc. Served with "crispy" roasted sweet and regular potatoes and white rice. Thanks a bunch!

Love it👍 What i needed; - Olive Oil - half a Onion - Ground Meat 1 pound (450 gram) - Canned Tomato 24 0z (0.7 liters) - Black Beans 2x 260 grams - 1 Teespoon Cumin - 1 Teespoon Cayenne Pepper - 1 Teespoon Salt - Littel bit pepper - 2 Teespoon chillipowder - Some Tabasco sauce I made twice as much and had enough for 4 person. Took me 1h 30min to finish but had lot of water in my tomatos so it needed to cook long.

    This recipe flat-out works. I'll also add chopped garlic, but not until it's about a half-hour before it's ready to serve. I can also substitute crushed red pepper for the Tabasco. I don't like it that much if I use them both at the same time, so I randomly choose just one or the other each time I make it. When I use crushed red pepper, I add it to the simmering onions at the beginning. I add butter & brown sugar, too. I also like trying out different kinds of canned beans, too. It never turns out the same from one time to the next, but it's always good.

    I am not Neil , Thank you for making the effort to make this inspiring video , Chilly is one of my favourite dishes . I love how we have the freedom to customise great dishes , What I do is similar . I add tomato sauce instead of water , I like adding chopped and fried bell peppers and jalapeños , and garlic , I add peas and carrots , I like to put both red and black beans in it , sometimes I will put portobello mushrooms in it , you do not need any salt .some times I will add a little red wine in it , I recommend making at least four times the amount you did because everyone loves it . the longer you cook it the better it is , once it has all been fried I cook for at least two hours on low , the longer you cook it the better, even better the next day over night in the fridge if there is any left , I do this all the time and received many compliments . I also like to put a dollop of sour cream on top before serving , ( I use to put corn in it but stooped when GMO became the normal ) , I do not usually serve this on a bed of cooked rice but I have which is also a good option. You have inspired me , now I want to make some. , You can make someone's day great with a lovely meal . Bonaparte .

    Come on people, the best chili is all about an attitude and personal taste. I call mine 'my world famous chili', but that of course is a personal joke, because any chili can be great if it's seasoned and cooked with the right ingredients. Note that I'm not saying what ingredients are right, because that depends on who is the cook and who is doing the eating!

    To all the self proclaimed chili snobs here. You're complaining about the beans in chili? If y'all knew beans about true Texas chili not only does it not have beans in it, it also has no tomatoes, and does not use ground beef! True Texas Red is little more than cubed beef browned in lard then cooked in a "gravy" of various dried chilies, toasted in a skillet, seeds and stems removed, soaked in hot water then blended or mashed with cumin, salt and pepper cooked with diced onions and garlic, thickened with masa harina. What he has posted here is a good general recipe for what America has come to call chili!

    I was actually going to just blow past this as I am a chef and have my own recipe, but I figured what the heck, I'll give it a watch, see just what is being labeled as the Worlds Greatest Chili. Well, I don't even have to make this to know that It's good! It is my recipe exactly! Well, almost! After the ground meat is cooked, I put some chopped garlic to it. I use petite diced tomatoes and will put anywhere from a half a small can of tomato paste to a full one. Helps to thicken it and kind of boosts the tomato richness. I will also use just a touch of either beef base or pork base depending upon which ground meat I use. I think this comes from my professional use of it and many home cooks are unaware of the boost that bases will give a dish. I keep just as many bases in my refrigerator at home as what I have in a commercial kitchen! Anyway, this is my basic chili recipe! Depending upon my mood, I am known to add a small can of diced green chilies, sometimes corn (frozen white shoepeg of course) and sometimes I am in the mood to put barley in it! Sometimes, just one of these additions, sometimes a couple, sometimes, ALL of them! Want a little corn richness to it? Thicken it up with some corn masa, the powdered stuff (once you have it in your kitchen, you will be amazed at how often you may use it). Anyway, as I said, I don't have to make this to know It's good! (There's a batch in the fridge right now as a matter of fact!) And he's right about the black beans! Much, MUCH better choice of bean!

    You're a Chef? LOL What cooking school did you go to? A true Chef would drain off excess fat from the cooked meat. Fat does add some flavor but excess is removed, as any culinary school would teach. Most cooks know to drain and rinse canned beans because you're getting rid of excess starch, sodium, lectin and metallic taste that canned beans can have. For these 2 reasons I doubt your claim of being a Chef that you put out there. Barley, really? LOL And what form, dry or cooked? Masa? Yes that will thicken it, so will oatmeal, LOL.

  • @fctuber

    @fctuber

    6 жыл бұрын

    Mr Rytte first of all, those are pretty much givens. If you HAVE to be told to drain stuff, you have bigger problems than not draining it provides! Then again, I guess if you're just buying udder burger (those chubs labeled "ground beef") ya, I would be concerned about draining it also, but once again, you have bigger concerns than the grease off of it! Use a quality product to start out with! Personally, I also start out with dry black beans and cook my own so I have control over such things as salt content and other concerns. I'm sorry, I did not take into consideration that those such as yourself, that need explicit instructions in all that you do, would be reading this. I will start writing instruction books in my comments just for people such as yourself. NOT!

  • @fctuber

    @fctuber

    6 жыл бұрын

    And YES! Barley. Some put rice in their chili, barley just happens to be more flavorful and more nutrient dense. Barley is like brown rice on steroids. This from someone dunking peanut butter sandwiches in chili? I wouldn't knock anyones suggestions if I were you! If you are knocking using Masa, then I take it that you have not had much actual Mexican cuisine or even true Tex-Mex for that matter!. I'm not talking Northern Tex-Mex or tourist trap Mexico here either! A bowl of red chili such as this is more likely called chili con carne and IF it has beans in it as true Mexican food, will have black beans. Even true Texas chili has no beans, but is thickened with Masa!

    In response to both of your replies. A Chef as you so boldly made your self out to be, wouldn't assume the draining of the grease as being a given when it wasn't stated or shown. Originally chili was a cheap meal and not made with top cuts and even made with leftovers at times. So you start out with dry beans. That's fine if you have the time to cook them first after a long soak. Do you parboil and drain? Oh that's right you couldn't even answer the form of barley you use, and yes I know well about barley. That's why I brought it up. And you avoided it, LOL. Could that be because you are just tossing things out to sound real? As for Tex Mex chili, never liked it, but to each their own, we cook to our own tastes. And I didn't knock anyone's suggestions since you have clearly searched other vids for me, so why the false retort? As for dunking PB peanut butter sandwiches, a spread made from roasted legumes. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. Now if a person doesn't like beans in their chili, I wouldn't suggest trying it. I have doubts on you being a chef, but if you want to pretend, well it's youtube, LOL.

    Never thought of using water. I always use tomato sauce along with diced or crushed tomatoes. I like black beans too, along with some pinto or kidney beans. I use garlic powder also. I have seen recipes that use oregano as well. Sometimes i use a crock pot, but i have gotten to where i usually prefer the stovetop. It's also faster. Good video

    I drain the grease from the fried meat . I also drain and rinse the beans and I usually use 2 cans of kidney beans , 2 cans of stewed tomatoes , 1 whole onion , several cloves of garlic. Next comes the chipolata chili powder , salt , black pepper and let it simmer all day. Just before we eat I add about 1/3 of a pack of cooked elbow macaroni. Left overs can be baked the next day with a layer of cheese over them. Or just tossed in a bowel and microwaved.

    I'm with the guy in the video, I like black beans in my chili, I like the smaller size and think they give a good color contrast to the dominant red color of the dish. The only thing I would do differently is to use one can black and one can kidney beans. Oh, and I would use some type of pepper, usually green bell pepper, sometimes red, and jalapeno peppers as well, because technically, it isn't chili without it. Chili refers to peppers, chili con carne means chili peppers with meat.

    I agree. Myself I’ll lower heat very low and cover with a lid and stir every 15 minutes. After hour and a half adjust to your liking. But I believe by covering the pot you’ll have better taste of ingredients. You’re not cooking flavor away. To each his own

    @SavageArfad I agree with that. You can add them in the beginning but I don't see a reason too. Especially if they are home cooked beans, because home cooked beans tend to have broken/bursted skins and they will break apart and go to mush if simmered too long.

    Guys, a tip, because tomato is an acidic -component, to get the balance correct yu hv to add at least a spoonful + some sugar, to make the flavour more well rounded. When cooking a dish its like chemistry, you have to get the flavours correct for the taste buds on your tongue , so your tasting different note in the food, not just something thats beige, with one note, but a symphony of .flavours, thats the difference between a good cook & a bad one

    Instead of ground beef, try cutting up top sirloin into 1/2 inch squares. It's so much better to get an actual bite of tender beef. Bush's also makes Chili Magic in Mild and Medium. It has most of the needed seasonings in it already and requires less doctoring to get it to where you want it. I agree with many others that garlic is an important component missing from your chili. I add 4-5 cloves.
