Wow. Warmed him up with two easy jumps, the second one higher, then rather than waste his energy on warm ups, they approached the big jump. The horse saw it, perked up as if to say, "oh now THIS one will be fun" and he just went for it. No hesitation, second thoughts or doubts. Lovely to see.

Friendly FYI to commentators, this is the impressive world record in Puissance, which includes a number of obstacles before the puissance wall. However, the highest SINGLE jump was 2.47m (8.1ft.) in 1949 by Huaso and his rider Captain Alberto Larraguibel. This also has yet to be beat .

I was born in 1975 and there were three names that were classed as gods in the showjumping circuit, Next Milton, ANYONE in the Whitaker family and Franke Sloothaak. Franke's smooth hands and riding style was second to none.

I also forgot Harvey Smith, Captain Mark Phillips, both I met personally whilst I was on the circuit and then there’s the eventing greats. Blimey the list is endless I don’t know where to stop, I was named after Lucinda Green and I trained with Carrol Green, we were blessed to have so many brilliant riders from the uk. Hope you are having a good day.x

Many people say that Show Jumping is cruel to the horse but the horses weigh 1200 pounds or more if they do not want to jump they will not. They have a mind of their own. The horses are not objects to thier riders they are they best friends and if the horse is not fit they will not jump them.

StellaRipper nope, how do u know that when these horses have gone home they don’t get put into a field with all other horses, I like my Showjumper in with my miniature because they get on very well, I would much prefer them together than in a herd because they might get ruined. Also I’m 100% sure these horses love jumping because my horse atm loves showjumping but I’ve had horses that absolutely hate it, and you know hen they don’t like it. So you either do dressage or shoring oooorrrrr you could get a new horse that likes showjumping.

I agree with Loki. I think most of the horses are strong enough to show us what they want and what they don’t want. My own mare was also strong enough to show me, that I’m training with the wrong trainer. She always just stopped and don’t move anymore until I get down. It took a time to understand her, but now she’s doing well and enjoying like she did before

what year was it ? strange that wikipedia is way off on the record in Puissance , but they mentioned The world record for the highest obstacle cleared by a horse and rider was set on February 5, 1949, by Huaso and his rider, Captain Alberto Larraguibel. The Thoroughbred stallion and his Chilean rider cleared a fence measuring 2.47 metres (8 ft 1 in) high. This record has stood for 70 years. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_(horse)#:~:text=World%20records,-The%20world%20record&text=The%20world%20record%20for%20the,8%20ft%201%20in)%20high.

This is, as the text indicates, the official world record in Puissance (The competition involves a maximum of five rounds - opening round followed by four jump-offs, not against the clock. The first round consists of four to six large single obstacles including the puissance wall, the starting height of which may vary from 1.70 to 1.80 m (5 ft 7 in to 5 ft 11 in) in height.) No disrespect, but Caballo Huaso jumped a ancient high jump competition form with one bendt increasingly high fence. Frankes record is with a wide straight up wall. The ancient form of the competition with the 2,47 record is now more, it has by the way killed several horses thu to the rapid unexspected fall after the fence. If you want to set a new world record today Franke Sloothaak is the man you have to beat.

+Rodrigo Vial I think both records are completely valid and very insaine! both rider and horse have to have a lot of guts to do so! The 2:40 is the record for puissance, and the 2:47 is the record in highest jump! And the old 2:47 record was done in a much unsafer environment.. the arena was not made with the modern shock absorbing and even sand that they use today! if was befour far more dangerous! the old obstacle is not used any more, to dangerous! But none is very healthy for the horses members.. like any top level extreme athletes, it is VERY high! and it is stressful for their members.. no one uses a first class competition horse on the Puissance.. you have to have a special horse to do this!

Der nimmt das Pferd vorne viel zu kurz. Erbärmlich dass man ein Tier so "zügeln" muss damit es springt. First he takes it short, then he lets it loose, just to take it back short again. This is not a Jumphorse, more likely that this was a Dressagehorse, trained to jump .

Collection ...plus flexibility for the bend OVER the jump...horses need to be able to round their backs ..and necks ..the 'bascule' if they don't have that flexibility they will get injured and they can't round as well. There is like a seesaw movement in horses that can't ...it actually makes landing ...heavier and tougher on their joints ..the rounded neck helps prevent that ..it makes it more catlike ..its not important for small jumps ..but the whole idea of small jumps is you are building towards the bascule and the bigger jumps ...so they are going to end up 'rounded' not all jumpers will be like that though..it depends on the discapline.

@@k_rodeo Big heavy men force the horses over unnaturally high hurdles. In nature, horses dodge hurdles when they can. They jump over them only when there is no other way to escape. A person who looks closely does not have to be an "equestrian" to see that in this cruel sport animals are treated like objects or sports equipment. Look at the man on the horse and then the horse foaming at the mouth. Open your eyes to the suffering of these animals. You are also just a human animal. Your life is not worth more, even if you have the power to subjugate horses!
