Historically, this was the cruiser that accompanied Yamato on her last mission in 1945. She was stopped dead in the water by one torpedo in the engine room at the start of the first wave and eventually sunk by 6 more torpedos. She was laid down in 1942 and finished in 1943. Not a 1920s design, although with 6 guns she was armed like an old design.

She's a 6000 ton full load design, and is suppose to go with carriers and base submarines, so instead of guns they gave here a whole buncha torps, and a lot of catapult aircraft, to scout for CVs and spot for subs, so that's why she sucks so bad in this game, combat just isn't her thing, but WG shoulda give here normal shell velocity tbh, the alpha is high enough that I would be fine with a ship like that.

That very first 6 seconds are a very good take on the IJN prem fiasco...

@tamenga88 Technically B-65 with 6 356mm in game would be quite bad as 356 is a horrible caliber for the game mechanisms not overarching any more important threshold than Henri (16mm) As for the other stuff... Yeah I also wanted to hit my face against a wall seing what they did to the T10 Azuma when they bring her to T9, the change was meant to completely destroyed her survivability to get the glorious dispersion but then they removed it for absolutely no reasons whatsoever and we ended up with the horrible version that we currently have. It's just so sad but unless we change it, WG will never do it for themselves

I’m actually doing okay in this ship, I’m playing it like a fast gunboat DD. Pure fire starter build and burning things down. The torps are situational, if you try to force them into a fight you’re dead due to the need to go full broadside. It’s certainly not a great cruiser, but it’s kinda fun for $17.

I got mine for free in the dockyard.

Let's say that the ship is intensely positional-focused. Taking IFHE before concealment expert would be a no-no, since this ship rely so much on its torps, and should be played as a very squishy and bad-conceal DD, rather than a cruiser which is usually gun-focused. Consider it a Mogami which could spam nice torps, but with average DD guns. Had had the honor to sail the ship in its WIP stage, with 10km torps at that time and no boost. Managed to score 100k+ games in the few rounds I played. (Sadly NDA on videos & old replays won't work) Relies heavily on: A. enemy ships sailing towards you (being on the weak, kiting flank - need to read the deployment from both sides, or shall I say, the tide of war) B. enemy has no advance spotting in the form of DD or carrier screening, so that you could ninja around the edge of your concealment and C. enemy senses no real threat and sails predictably, preferably even broadsiding. Your squishy Yahagi hull could work to bait enemy BBs or CAs to turn broadside to shoot you just when the torps are getting their broadside; Also, the fire chance is not bad, and with DE, can be used to stack up some fires after torps force dmg con, but preferably the process won't take long. In late game, Yahagi's boost would help in rushing down DDs and clueless carriers, which provides a lot of XP. Also somewhat of a good capper late game. A very challenging ship to play, but hugely rewarding, as torp spreads tend to be an all-or-noth'in gamble. And also, a ship with nice history for collectors and weebs alike poi :D

Or those who are IJN fan like me. I knew it going to be terrible premium cuz WG is still salty over Tsushima, i still bought it anyway. Yahagi is a beautiful ship and we don't really see much japanese premium nowadays.

Regarding the AA defense i don't think there is much you can do about it because this is possibly the late war Yahagi because it has a good amount of AA guns but they are short range 25mm guns. The only thing they can do is to make the Yahagi a tier 5 Yubari, how ? Well, give it the defensive AA and aiming system modification 0, now that could make this ship so much more interesting...

this ship has the same issue every tier 5 cruiser has: no armor made out of citadels good thing I passed on this one, altho the fire chance did look tempting...

And if you play this ship as a distant sniper?, invest in last stand and concealment, you got speed ,12 km torps and a nice shooting range. keep your distance , use your speedboost to dodge incoming fire , stealthtorp wil work to if you invest in captainpoints, and burn the red do death with a nice firechange.

I got it, used it in co op to get the fire arcs down and figure out the torps. Haven't done randoms with it yet, too busy grinding for the Kitakaze.

just got this one in the Santa's gift box and took her out for a spin. Easy victory, I played her as a destroyer leader which seems to have been her intended role. Sank two with 6 torpedo hits and fires. Stayed behind the dd's used hydro, fire torps, then set fires, used speed boost and rarely slowed down, fast and agile.

Thanks for the review. Wasn’t planning to buy it. I usually buy Santa Crates at the end of the year and probably end up getting it in one of those crates. Here’s to a future port queen or should I say peasant regarding this ship.

It’s like WG has a Japanese bias but not in a good way. I hadn’t heard any reviews at all about this ship before it went on sale, and I can see why it’s such a dumpster fire. Please WG fix you Japanese premiums.

The Königsberg gets 7,5 dec reload for 9 guns and both ships have paper armour and light guns with high arcs in common. I think the yahagi should get a reload buff to 6,5 seconds (yubari reload time) for her 6 light guns. The current reload timeis longer then the reload time of an Omaha (8 seconds for 8 gun broadside)

This ship really is just a dd with a citadel, the torps got that spicy 17k base damage, so if they land they hurt, but you can overmatch everywhere (although that also result in loads of overpens from shooting at it)

As the current best Yahagi player in the world based on PR I can say that the Yahagi is overall no better or worse than any other T5 light cruiser. Does that make her worth buying? Probably not. Her torps have amazing range but terrible arcs, her guns have decent range, reload and hit pretty hard (with IFHE) but there are only 6 of them, she's got decent AA for her tier but it's not like that matters, she has no armor but then again neither does any other T5 cruiser, and finally she's got good speed. She's not OP like the Guilio Cesare or Kamikaze R, but with a decent captain she can be a fun little pest. I'd go for Priority Target, Expert Marksmen, Demo Expert and IFHE to start, then throw in Concealment Expert, Adrenaline Rush and finally what ever the torp reload skill is called. I had lots of captain XP to throw around... but I also just reacquired 155mm Mogami after resetting the line so it all works out.

Thanks for the guide man, even though this is 2 years old, I still plan on buying this ship, because to me, this is a very interesting design, I usually don't really strugle with bad ships *that* much, example: Hipper, Yorck Pensa, Emerald.... but this one's gonna be a tough one.

Since it's an IJN CL, you may want to go with Last Stand for now and use Adrenaline Rush or MLG whenever you get to 19 points.

I feel the best player with the yahagi lol. but he's right but I still like this boat is fun to play for a while or die in style

Interesting historical fact, this ship used the same guns as the Yamato's secondaries, and indeed they WERE from the Yamato and Musashi when those ships gave up their broadside 6-inch triple mounts.

No DFAA? Historically Agano class is an AA cruiser. The main gun is DP, altho it could only aim 70 degree upwards.

Why can't WG fix their prems after release? like so many more sales would happen if they did. I was really looking forward to this class and a chance to play a IJN light cruiser. Idk why they would try to push for a ship that is so easily blapped and say that her torps is what sells her, but they are more of a double edged sword and just impossible to play in randoms. Like all they have to do is give her actual light cruiser ballistics and something to make her more survivable. She'd be more decent

First I thought its T5 BIG YUBARI. After purchased I found that was wrong. I have 19 Harugumo captain, but still guns are sucks. cant hunt DD in 5 km and hard to hit over 10km range. only torps are worth to.

Seems like you need a dedicated commander for just this ship, which defeats the purpose of a premium you can place other commanders on ... and your IJN DDs and cruisers won't have those builds.

I thought my playing made this ship bad. Nope it’s just bad. Also I was wondering yahagi historical camo or weser. Weser is about to come to my ships.

This ship is simply another rushed premium. I mean it appeared first time 9 (NINE) month ago and then… disappeared, just like the premium Italina DD Leone. They were both announced togheter and after a round of test by CCs, both were put on hold because both were terrible. Now all of a sudded… WG put it in shop. I was tempted to buy BUT I decided to wait for some one else to do it first and then watching some video like this. Now I know it's better to save the money for something else.

Actualy worst prem ship in the game (I think Crispy Cream is better). I'm fan of IJN and I'm very disappointed ! Shame WG ;( And historically this ship is from 40's not 20's. Agano type: 1942-44 r., then should be balanced on high tier = better stats + gimmick consumables like smoke, radar itp.

I don't purchase any premiums anymore. Even if I sometimes want to, when they are on discount. I have the Tirpitz, Atlanta, Missouri, [smolensk], [Salem], I don't need more because I already have more ships than I can play, thinking about grinding 3 Lines at the same time. And it takes a lot of time without premium.

CV rework/ more and more HE dpm monsters/ NTC(Research bureau/ and now submarines with the potential of f*cking everything up. I don't want to give them my money, only to make something that I absolutely dislike. I'm also playing less then last year.

Could have been easily balanced at tier 6 but.....WG living up to Woe is IJN meme

Its too bad it is as weak as it is, being derived from an actual ship that perished with the Yamato. It needs at a minimum a 15 pt captain and with that it is still hard to play.

At least I got her through an event and spent no money, tried her a few times, not good, especially the guns that have no accuracy, and torps aren't much better, even with a 19 skill commander, still sucked and needed another 19 skill commander on a better ship...

When people say this is the worst IJN or overall prem in the game, they forget the proud WG tradition. Tachibana, Tachibana Lima, Mikasa, Katori, Yubari, copy-paste Mutsu, Ashitaka, Kii from formerly A hulls of free ships, ARP ships, and so on.... this is the kinda ship I'd spend a month grinding a ridiculous mission set to get for free and put her in port and never touch her unless some snowflake event or a chance of meme div. They want real money for it? LOL, NO.

You are not wrong, Yahagi is not a good ship. It is such a disappointment for a long awaited Agano-class light cruiser ! IJN Yahagi was one the very few light cruisers made by Japan. She is famous for escorting IJN Yamato in its last day. I can not understand why they love making bad Japanese premiums ? Eventhough i already knew it going to be bad i still bought it but i didn't buy the bundle for obvious reason eventho i wanted the flag. From my experiences the Yahagi needs better RoF, at least 7 second of reload because it's possibly the only light cruiser with 6 guns at tier 5 everyone else has 9 guns or more, she needs turret rotation buff from 30 to between 25 and 20 sec, for some reason she has a very weird firing arch, very high firing arch like american ships which is not a characteristic of IJN ships so that need to be fixed to make it like any other IJN cruisers and last but not very important, torp reload could be faster, at least 100 second instead of 2 minute. To make it even better to make up for the few guns is either to give it smoke or repair consumable.

Bottom line: you can´t afford to take this ship into battle -.-

i tell ya after migrating from asia to EU this ship costs me 5$ and alaska will cost 20$ i mean lol so cheap in india

Lol, I bought this thing instantly and have been having tons of fun in it so far. Maybe I'm just an anomaly. NOTE: Now to be clear, I do think she needs some adjustments for sure, especially in the gunnery department. She turns faster than her turrets can, unless you have the skill which wastes 2 points. Fighter Planes need to be swapped for DFA imo, and she DESPERATELY needs Aiming Mod 0 if WeeGee wants to keep her DPM that shit.

Thanks for the insight on the ship. For reference, Furutaka is pronounced "Foo-loo=tah-kah" People get caught up saying "Few-ree-tah-kah" because of the Furry Taco" meme, but the "u" in Japanese is pronounced the same consistently and the "r" is rolled into a "L".

Total waste of time. Got it for free fo r the Hizen event, got 3 fires in 10 seconds and after using damage control i got 3 more few seconds later burning me to death.

So Russians are still but hurt about tsushima straight and can't get over on trolling Germany.

Those torpedo arcs make me cringe not gonna lie

imo, not worth it for a Premium Fairly good speed but all citadels, made of glass, and not happy with the guns.. Save your money and get better

Looks like Emerald has lost the title of "worst ship in the game"... Makes me think of my Huang-He: if it's free (mine was) then it's fun for the maximum hard-mode challenge, but not worth buying.

Emerald wasn't bad in my book. Nice smoke, great handling. Also she carry more torpedoes than Shimakaze, at tier 5. One hit of them hurts a lot. Surely Emerald is lack of gun power but shes an advanced torpedo boat.

A re skinned Yubari, another rip off ship then, we just need a re skinned US Battlesnail next or a Brit BB with an 80 second turret turn. What the Hell are Wargaming playing at FGS?

Look not everyone is playing at tier 10 some of us have to work for a living, you tubers, knock anything that's not at that tier, well most of us don't play 10's

I'm surprised this didnt make your Top 5 worst ships. Yahagi is HORRIBLE. Do not buy her. I love her historically. But wg screwed this ship HARD.

The Furutaka is miiiiiiles better than this piece of shit. Useable torps, hard hitting guns, good armour. Yahagi....nothing
