I've done that as well, but unless it's sub on sub I just don't ping anymore. Even with the Brit line I just send the torps with no ping. I also find I can get in much closer and shotgun a ship then dive down deep. Thanks for watching.

Hmm, i do play subs quite alot and unless I'm grossly misremembering, the sub radar does work from the surface. Edit: the text only specifies "Detects submarines at maximum depth or periscope depth". It doesn't say anything about you having to be below the surface

Yep. I would also like to add that hydro (bound to T) will show all nearby enemies' position on the minimap. Especially handy if the enemy sub tries to slip out of your FOV like at 6:40.

Yup, your right. Originally a few years back when you were on the surface it didn't work. I just did a bunch of testing and it now works on the surface. Well I missed that one...LOL. Thanks for watching.

However it does not work behind islands, I just finish testing that as a counter to the surface anti-sub hydro and you can't see a sub through an island. I need to test surface ships tonight. Thanks for watching.

I was just playing my sub and was detected by sub radar through a skinny island. The enemy sub was hugging the coastline and I was on the other side of the island completely detected by his radar. I activated my radar and lit him up through the island as well. I was absolutely puzzled by this. I should try this in a training room with a buddy perhaps.

Great tips mate. I do love subs but totally suck at one v one sub battles (actually I suck at most games but as a 57 year old I am still gamin'!!!!). Have sub'ed you (pun intended) because of your straight forward and no dressing vid.

how does spotting with periscope works - what's the range that you spot ships with...

Basically unless its a DD or sub you spot ships first at periscope depth. However DD's and subs it's there air detectability range that you spot them. Thanks for watching.

Hi, I m new in subs too. My problem is at the beginning of a party I always get confronted with enemy dds who spot me - and if I (try to) ping them I generate much attention and will soon get the anti-air planes over me and gets killed fast. How do you avoid this?

Have a look at my July vids, I did a whole special on subs that month. I do have a few how too vids a s well. But essentially, stay on the flanks not the middle and don't rush in. pace yourself. Thanks for watching.

I can never detect subs under water. I think that hydro or whatever it's called that's supposed to help you tell if they are close is fickle. Only a couple times have I spotted one with it and I've had some very close. Don't know why it doesn't work???

With the changes to torpedos, these short-range sub-duels are worthless. Subs can find other subs easily, especially if you spec into it. Having your team actually kill the other sub, that's a different story.

i have seen the same issue frequently - i cant detect a sub when they're right next to me with sub surveillance - but they're detecting me with sub surveillance. - know why? is it a bug?

When firing a non pinged homing torpedo (homing torpedo without guidance) at enemy sub does the enemy sub have to be at same depth that the torpedo was fired from for the torpedo to hit? Example: Sub on surface fires without pinging at a periscope level sub, will the torps impact the periscope depth sub? Or Sub at medium depth fires at surface or periscope depth sub, will those torpedoes hit that sub?

If you fire homing torps without pinging and getting a lock the torps will stay at whatever depth your at. That said for example even with a lock at 30m the torp will need 2km to rise to the surface and at 60m you need 3km. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

May I ask a follow up? can a sub firing torps at surface hit a sub at periscope depth ? I know it works the other way around but I fell like since the pings go right over subs in this same scenario, maybe the torps would too?

You can always ask questions I'm always happy to answer. The short answer is no you have the have a ping lock on it. I also feel deep water should strike a sub at periscope to help out the Pan-Asians. Something you might not know is there is a little trick when fighting sub vs sub. If your on the surface and a sub try's to ping you it will not stick because of the transition. Have a look at the end of this video it's me playing U-190. I often wondered about the deep water torps vs. subs at periscope and thought that should work but figured it didn't and didn't want to ask you in fear of bombarding with too many questions. Yes, I've seen that video, excellent game play... during my own short experience with subs I thought I noticed the pings going over the subs and wasn't sure what was going on and your video and explanation during that vid cleared it up for me. I've probably seen about 6 of your vids at this point. Again thank you for your help!

when i use hydrophone, sometimes i do not detect my enemies movement at all whether im surfacing or at depth. Why????

@@normalguyofthenorth both, for surface ships it happen occasionally even when im submerged. and for subs, sometimes im so sure that they're around my range with no islands but i can't detect a single trail of them aftrer activating hydro at all
