I found my way here through Regal's recommendation of another Jones match. This is incredible to say the least. I also love the announcing as it gives a more legitimate presentation to wrestling when accompanied with the stellar in ring work.

The thing is Wrestling was presented along with "real" sports, on World of Sport, as there was football, rugby, tennis, even banger racing, therefore wrestling was entirely legitimate to all concerned.

    I like the way the ref counts when they are down: "One-Ah , Two-Ah, Three-AH, Four-Ah" :D

I always wondered why wrestlers grew mustaches when they turned heel, but after seeing this, I'm inclined to believe they just want to look as badass as Rocco!

I also really loved Marty Jones, the best wrestler I have ever seen. This was in his permed hair days, absolute in his prime.

Wow. British wrestling is great. I had no idea. Was listening to Regal on Stone Colds podcast talk about the style and how its a sort of lost art. How the rules dictated the style and the falls turning each bout into mini matches within the same match.

Tarrnack That is the exact same reason how I found this match. I also listened to the Regal on Stone Cold podcast. I'm sad about the fact that I only now know about these guys. They are absolutely great! Definitely gonna find out more about them.

I'm British and I know so little about British wrestling. Every time I see an old match like this I'm amazed by it. I wish this kind of wrestling would come back. It's completely unique. It's probably closest to Japanese wrestling in how they really make it look like a real sport. But even then it's a very different style, in Japan it's all about repetitive kicking in the chest But the way the crowd are silent for a lot of it, are watching it as if it's real. Cos they didn't know yet back then that it was pre determined. It's like how Japanese audiences are But yeah by time I was growing up as a kid (in the 90s) there was no British wrestling like this anymore. All there was was WWF and WCW. There's even nowadays tons of British wrestling, it's made a comeback and is getting super popular again. But it's a very very different style to this old original British wrestling. Modern British wrestling is all indie style. Like a British ROH. But that's better than nothing.

Had the fortune of watching this growing up in the mid 00s when it was constantly re-run (along with old American 50s cowboy drama gunsmoke) on an obscure sky channel I forgot the name of.

This bout was obviously before Rocco sustained a nasty gash on one of his knees that happened when he caught his leg on a ring post bolt. After that, he always wore protection over it.

Max Ward, often admonishes the bad guy/heel for an illegal move, that he eventually manages to spot (lol) e.g. hitting someone when they are on their knees and not quite ready... BUT when this kick or knee puts them fully on the canvas or winds them, he counts them anyway??😆
