Good on her for calling out the boorish behavior. This is tennis people.
I'm glad she mentioned the crowd issue since it was clearly affecting her a lot.

It affects all players. I'm glad Iga spoke out, crowds have been getting worse esp once server steps to the line. Heckling & yelling continues unabated even when players are ready.
Love it she can say it in a professional manner!
So Erfolgreich und noch so bescheiden. Was für eine beeindruckende Persönlichkeit.
The French audience is the worst. They are screaming, they are drunk. One tennis player was even spit on with chewing gum. It's very brave of her to speak out about it.

Nothing wrong with that. Learn tennis etiquette. If you want to be rowdy, save it for the US Open. They've accepted and even embraced that type of boisterous affair, but during the point it should be all about the players and they should have the respect of the crowd to be able to perform their craft at the highest possible level.

@@javierlara6350 Let's be real, it's def not just UO. It's AO as well, & RG has been like this for a long time. 1000 events are like this now too. The hold-out is Wimbledon where you can still hear a pin drop before each serve. Players haven't mentioned enjoying it. Even players like Kyrgios who claim they like the noisy partisanship end up going apesh*t on crowd members who are heckling them. Many players, including the greats, have mentioned how distracting it's becoming. They talk about wanting the crowd to enjoy the matches but respect that players need quiet from the moment they step to the line to serve to the moment the point is over.
Well done Iga! Well said! 🎉🎉🎉
Great comment about some sport ethic ... 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Respect
What do u mean called out the French Crowd u r making it sound so dramatic!! She has taken a stand for all the tennis players by saying this and well she is right ppl need to be silent when the point is going on you cant distract the player! They are entertaining you that doesnt mean u will disrespect the players
Osaka is improving every tournament. Hope she finally dials it in and win the wimby
The chair umpire needed to say something, I’m glad Iga was politely able to raise her concern
For Iga, Coco is easy, Naomi is tough as nail
For the World Number 1 to make these remarks was a real tribute to Naomi Osaka who had her on the ropes. She knew that a slight distraction from the crowd could have costed her the match. Going out in the second round is a long way from being the 3X champion 🏆 walking 🚶♂️ away!
Queen Iga
and we know that Naomi is playing great tennis, she was dragging her around for 3 hours into she choke.
A gentleman’s game.
Naomi played better, plain and simple, got to set point first in the opening set, destroyed Iga 6-1 in the second and got to match point first in the third. Iga won the more crucial points which mattered but overall Naomi was playing amazing just didn’t hold her nerve. She really is the only one who is capable of beating Iga.
I agree with Iga, but fans will be fans. They're gonna be nasty sometimes and can't control that

New generation of communes
Please stop this nasal wining
She’s just asking for them not to yell between first and second serves, which is the etiquette. It’s like going to the theater or opera and yelling out at an inappropriate time, it would be disruptive. A lot of new tennis fans are sloppy with this and it’s annoying for everyone and unfair to the players.
good iga
👏👏💙💙💙
Of course she's right, but this is the responsibility of the event organisers. In time people will turn on her because she'll have wealth, and they'll feel scolded. Organisers NEED TO ENFORCE crowd discipline
why she always speaking like she is about to cry lol
It doesn't matter to these idiot people in the crowd they are going to still do it , but it's good that she brought this up because it is annoying for one and 2 frustrating for the players
And how many times we see tennis players have tantrums like kids smash rackets and speak trash...

She played really good tennis but I won.
She forgets four years ago when there was a pandemic, there were no games and even when things slowly started reopening there were no crowds. Some tennis players like Serena Williams faced some horrific crowds (Palm Springs anyone?) and not once did she complain.

@AinSoph73 did Serena go on the microphone at the event and complain like this woman? No! She just simply didn't return. Iga should do the same. The crowds pays the players wages. She is right but it was bad decision to talk about it there (but it was also very difficult match and moments of match and every ball matters). Toy never win with such crowd and there will be persons who can do it in purpose in future.
That’s part of the sport is to handle under all types of pressure. She should be embarrassed to even bring that up. None of the greats have ever challenged the audience and their behavior. I don’t care for her anyhow this just adds list of things that annoys me with her. Serena endured many set backs with the French crowd and handled under the conditions. The reason there’s so much support for Iga is because she’s a white woman. Speaking up is obviously more honorable when you’re in a white dominated sport.
@EconomistGI
23 күн бұрын
Rubbish. Iga is 100% right to ask for respect from the audience, and this has absolutely nothing to do with the color of her skin. This is tennis, not MMA. It's about the audience refraining from screaming while the ball is being played. Afterwards, they can make any noise they want.
@j-dub6122

@@EconomistGI it has a lot to do with race. Tennis is a white dominated sport. Serena being vocal was never respected and people would mock and consider her being unsportsmanlike. Iga receiving no backlash for a sport that forces you to become mentally strong is ridiculous. If you cannot handle the stress just remove yourself simple as that. After all its requirements for her employment.

@@mwelb5251 You say "unfortunately" but also expect players to like it. Maybe pick a lane. It really depends what you want the game to be about. If you don't care about tennis-specific skills or who is best at them and just want to see a war with all the dirty bits, then anything goes, including shamelessly biased and disruptive crowd behaviour. At the extreme end of that, all sports are reduced to a contest of who can take the noise better, i.e. they're all the same and it gets boring. If, like me, you like variety, come to a tennis court for tennis rather than generic battle and want to see a fair, focussed contest of skill and will, cut the rowdiness. It's like an injury - part of the game, unfortunately, but to be minimised. Sure, keep up the energy and the drama, applaud your heart out, just shut it mid-point. (Not a bot, if that helps you believe it.)

Good luck with the US crowd at the US Open because that crowd is far WORSE!!!! If you're playing against an opponent from the US, you'll be lucky to even get a polite clap. Is it right that tennis fans scream and heckle during games? Nope, it's downright rude and disrespectful. Unfortunately, being able to play under pressure is all part of the game. If you can't handle that, then you shouldn't play, simple!
That's because the crowd was cheering for Naomi, this is the same crowd that was acting loud and rowdy when she won her Grand slam titles and she didn't have a problem then, it's a problem when majority of the stadium is clapping and cheering for someone else and now Iga needs the WHOLE stadium including the parking lot to be quiet.
