I was at the match. He seems like a nice kid and there is no doubt he very, very talented. I wouldn't be hard on him - he's young and feel he has so much to prove. My humble opinion is that the people that are surrounding him are not the "right" people. He had an entourage which is odd for someone that age and at this kind of tournament. None of the entourage really seemed to have an actual function. They were aggressive in their cheering, were winding him up and making it very hard for him to actually appreciate a good shot by his opponent or accept that he was in the wrong (re. a let, or similar). At one point he had a short injury time-out and the scene that created around him was amusing. One person put a towel on his knee (not sure what good that does, and I'm a practising doctor), another held his racket and one chap was actually trying to force feed him a banana by hand. He is only just starting on the pro tour and he would do well to find a mature advisors who can give him reassurance as well as constructive criticism. He ended up losing that match and I can easily see how some of that was down to his opponent's good play, but a material part would have been due to a lack of focus created by the circus around him.

Well I would say its definitely look different from a side. But you don't no tha story behind his team and the people around him why they are with him. Why that person putting towel on his knee was he asked for it and the other person was telling him relax was asking him where he feel the pain you are Dr I guse you do the same with your client by asking them what's wrong with them or you just tell them how they are by looking at their eyes or face. Feeding him banana is nothing wrong in that. Thought just clear few things that's all rest everyone have their opinion and we all should respect that. Pece ✌️

Hamza needs to be raised like Ali Farag, not like Asal. It seems that the people around him are not nurturing his game but, unfortunately, destroying his true potential. In Pakistan, we know what coaching and sports management mean. Hamza needs Shahid Zaman and SZK not only to coach him in competitive squash but also to put more effort into making him humble and appreciative of his opponents. With a world champion a year ago, he is not moving into the top 50. It's not the fault of the guy; something else is wrong around him.

What's amazing is Owain's built like fullback and can play top drawer squash. Always impressed when I see a thicker dude moving and playing like a smaller man, not easily done or learned. Skål from Canada, be looking for you gentlemen in LA 2028.

@@Faster798 Looks like the pakistanis are over zealous, Hamza would do well to rid himself of such people, much the same as Asal could well do without his dad at his matches etc,

It was a well-payed match. Hamza needs to rally and volley more and not ask for lets. He has a beautiful game and great shot play. seems like Shahid has trained him well. He had four game balls to close the 4th game - with more experience, he will be a great player insa'allah. Keep going my friend.

Trying "Hesham boasts" that end up easy middle court front for opponents and trying to hit nick shots from behind the service line where none of them worked except one even at game balls is going to prove to make Hamza lose games (like game 2 and almost lost game 3 and then match ball) because of that. Cut these shots out of your game Hamza. Literally could have had this match if these bad shot selections were not made. This is not a show game. You are starting to compete and you don't get to hit nicks from behind the service line with power but with angles and control and that takes a lot of hard work to get there. You aren't there and should avoid these risky shots. Concentrate on line length and cross courts and getting the opponent behind you more than you are behind them and wait for lose balls to hit drop shots or nicks using volleys etc. My $0.02. This game was not very clean. Neither from Hamza nor from Owain. Owain wanted to trap strokes by running into the player when the ball is going back and he should go back and play. Also when Owain played straight drop shots he hinders path of the opponent to the ball even when his drop shots are waist high. Sorry dude, that was really bad form. Running into opponent's bodies fishing for strokes isn't going to improve your ranking. Hamza whining way too much also. Needs to mature. Cut out the drama. Compose yourself. And ask for a new ball after 3 games. Played well but you need better shot selection and better temperament. Basically a bit more maturity in the game. Not trick shots.

Hamza seems to frustrate both himself and opponents with the sweat on his goggles during and in between rallies. With all the advice he seems to be getting from his entourage, I'd start with a head sweat band.

Congratulations to Owain for winning but his win was tainted by unacceptable shoving and manhandling. He needs to make a greater effort to play the ball, and not bulldoze into the opponent seeking a let. It was undignified tbh and congrats to the referee for withstanding considerable crowd pressure and not awarding lets. More generally the crowd was highly partisan. It's natural to support your player, but a well-seasoned person can applaud BOTH players when great shots are played. I'm a Hamza supporter but enjoyed seeing a big guy like Owain make some impressive retrievals.

No. It was a bit reckless but not deliberate. I think Hamza was a bit soft too, making that noise and taking so much time but then he can come back and play absolutely fine. I think he was trying to get the ref to give a conduct game

  • @Orbituation

It definitely was not a nice contact on the leg, but he was definitely focused on trying to get the ball, because there are worse ways to take out an opponent. At 35:29, you can hear his coach/supporter trying to manipulate the ref into giving a conduct game when it's clear it's an accident. Very sad to hear.
