World Cup winners react to semi-finals & Springbok v All Blacks final | RWC 2023 Official Podcast

Спорт

We're joined on the podcast today by three World Cup winners in; two-time World Champion Dan Carter, Ex-Springbok captain John Smit and an England legend from 2003 in Ben Kay to talk through all the semi-final action and preview the big clash this weekend.
The lads dissect South Africa's incredible comeback against England and New Zealand's thrashing of Argentina and analyse where both teams stand in the build-up to Saturday night's show piece final.
They also reveal; what it takes to win a World Cup, why the rivalry between NZ & SA is so fierce, why Will Jordan has become so revered, why the tunnel is so awkward pre-match, why the NZ public was too quick to judge Ian Foster, how a captain gets the best out of his team, what drives South Africa to get out of impossible positions and discuss how both teams will look to exploit each others weaknesses.
Plus we're treated to some hilarious stories about; Jonah Lomu, George Gregan, Victor Matfield, Rassie Erasmus and more! This is your definitive review & preview of all of the World Cup action, so sit back, relax and enjoy the Official Rugby World Cup Podcast, presented by Asahi Super Dry.

John Smit is an absolute legend. The biggest, strongest and most powerful men I've ever seen in a place like Westbury even say that John Smit fights for his country and that's a big deal to the general public. I hope we focus in that SA vs NZ contest and we get that historic fourth.

I'm a Saffa and obviously my blood is green. In a way, as defending champs we're entirely respectable because we're now actually at the point we need to be to "defend" the title in the final game. In a way - job 99% already done. Boks have now made it to 4 finals and we're the only team (thusfar) never to have lost in a final. Let's hope that stat is upheld but if the AB's win it then it will be because our oldest adversary was the best team on the day and the cup stays south of the equator.

The truth is that I will be a gutted bok supporter if we lose the final, but losing to the mighty All Blacks is not something we will need to feel ashamed about. As an armchair observer it seems like the boks might have already emptied their tank with those tough games against Ireland, Scotland, Tonga, France and even the Poms were a tough opponent, the AB's have only had 2 tough games and could very well have more energy than the boks in the final. Hoping that Jacques and Rassie can pull a few tricks out the hat for this one. Finally a big thanks to Jacques from bok supporters for the role you played in giving us something to be proud of again and all the best for your new venture in Ireland, it's going to be hard for us if you end up coaching another team against the boks though, but somehow it sort of feels inevitable.

PSA: Review the final scrum from the initial angle, English TH side. Fix your eyes on the far side of the tunnel. Observe Eng LH knee go down to ground. Observe that this is what turns Koch inwards. Observe the knee lift just before put-in. Observe the scrum then go sideways in a manner that only the LH could effect, on account of physics and elementary vector maths. BOK got that one spot on. English LH gambled, and lost.
