    Liquidcadmus Nah, they're just trying to be cautious, since these are the finals. Guys like Julio normally try different strategies in the 1st fights. And the thing is normally you'll find the middle fights more interesting that the finals.

    @@Heigxion I'm from the 90's generation of TKD, it was different back then. check out tomaz Barada, Stephen Tapilatu, Paul Germain, Hernan Cisternas, Ri Chol Nam, you'll see what I mean. unfortunately the art has devolved instead of improving, and I don't mean to say anything bad about these competitors, I respect them. but the way things are done now have changed a lot from how they used to be.

    Liquidcadmus Indeed, that is true. However, fights those days used to be more about strength, rather than speed. Rules adapted a lot since then in order to prevent injuries. I know some people want to be back to the old school way of fighting; which I totally respect that, and I'll admit, sometimes I also want it to be back. However, I think this new school benefict the technique and the speed of the fights, which it prevents you from going on a rampage to attack your opponent; the faster the fights, the less mistakes you can make. That's why some fights may look the same.

    They need a freesparring competition where open hands can be used, you can't even hook a leg with your forearm in this type, it's too artificial and you see the results when these guys go into mma rings knowing a very limited fight. This type seems to be designed to encourage the use of leg kicks to the upper body which is nice and flashy but is only a part of tkd but is still better than the leg fighting you see in wtf where they fall over so often.

By the way this was the point of my first question, which was kind of a rhetoric one: since I can t hurt the legs that should not be full contact. I admit it was a vague thought, the first concept of this reply is clearer ("no punching head = no full contact" )

    ITF taekwondo is more traditional and incorporates more punches, less stylish kicks in comparison to WTF. While WTF is nice to look at, ITF tends to relate more to actual combat. But honestly, whether ITF is good depends on who you learn it from. Fighters like these from this video is quite disgraceful to ITF

  • @joshuabrant3487

    They are both "bad" as far as a real fight. As in you will learn to but in an inefficient way and not everything you practice will apply directly. Just do kickboxing is the answer if that is your main concern. Same thing with karate and so on. We already figured out something more practical years ago and these older styles have just gotten worse and worse since their glory days have ended sadly. Like even compare wtf tkd of early 2000s to wtf tkd now and the difference is light and day and people were ALREADY making fun of wtf tkd back then haha.

Are knockouts permitted, are full strength kicks and punches allowed or will the fighter get warned? • @cryptor0012

    @cryptor0012

    At a lower level, you're meant to keep your hands up as the kicks are pretty slow meaning they're easy to block But at a higher level, they're more of a burden as simply moving around is much more efficient as it makes your opponent go off balance and allows for a counterattack Holding your hands up high also limits your speed in both movement and kicks; when you have a very fixed guard, you find that you move way less as you focus more on blocking than dodging and repositioning, thus making you an easier target I still have a neutral stance, but instead of the front hand at shoulder height and using fists, I have relaxed palms and my front hand is lower ~the waist to push side kicks so people go off balance, allowing for a punishing counterattack, while the other hand is used to block kicks to the head Also remember kicks are from the legs, and by having the hands ~the waist you can just block it before the legs can go close to you, and momentarily knocking the opponent off balance This is NOT saying you shouldn't have guard ready, you can clearly see at some points in the fight that both fighters have guard up, but its up to the fighters to determine whether they want to go more offensively (giving less focus on the guard and trying to create space to attack) or defensively (usually finding ways to move around or destabilize the opponent) TL:DR Holding your hands up high limits your speed and movement, at higher levels when you're very used to quick combat having them at a lower level allows you to block kicks quicker and allows for more versatility

    Rules of point fighting are very gamey, so people game those rules and a meta strategy always appears.. those at the top usually conform because it has been demonstrated to work 'best' and the risk of not conforming is too great. It kind of sucks but it's the nature of the thing. The more open the rules, the harder it is for any one style to dominate which is why there's a lot more variety in MMA (love it or hate it) since more or less everything is allowed. Old school full contact TKD and Karate used to be a lot more varied and fun to watch.

    Wow. Just wow. You can tell it’s all point based and not full contact. Must take a lot of years worth of hard training to create techniques so useless for real combat. No guard. All the punches were haymakers. Kicking has no follow through and ducking kicks? If this was my old WTF tournies both would have been KOed by their own coaches for ducking like they were. On the plus side though they’re are quite elegant dancers.

But it's obviusly more effective if you go with a kick, that can also be counterattacked with a fist if the other is fast enough. Also, a kick to the head is 3 points, but is not that easy to do it...
