Working with Sweet Chestnut
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Tim Roskell demonstrates his green woodworking skills here at The Royal Bath & West Show. He shows us how to use various tools - such as the froe, side axe and draw knife - as he splits and cleans a length of coppiced sweet chestnut. Tim explains how this is one of the most durable of woods with its high tannin levels and low sapwood/high heartwood content - and reveals the potential benefits of a woodworking lifestyle.

I love these videos! They are all great craftsmen and the videos are all really well made.
“No more office belly have I got” lol I like it.
I wish we still had our native chestnuts here in the US. All that’s left are small diameter stump sprouts that keep coming up and dying back in a cycle of perpetual death that’s been happening for over a century. That and sporadic groves of spreading orchard-form Chinese and Japanese chestnuts, but they’re not widespread. Your sweet chestnut wood looks very similar to our native Castanea Dentata.
Beautiful video 💚
That's how it's done. Great stuff.
Am in UK.Please could you advise where I can get a Froe like yours.
