Working With Layers in Lightroom | Tutorial Tuesday

This week we're looking at how you can use masks in Lightroom Classic as if they were layers on your image and all the benefits and goodness that it brings. From more control and nuance to a better overall end photo, there are so many great reasons to work this way, let's dive in.

Thanks Gareth - this shows how and why LR is becoming the go-to tool for those afraid of PhotoShop (such as me 😂). I rarely shoot images with people in them but the technique works with inanimate objects too, such as in landscape and certainly in wildlife imaging. My current direction of exploration is in astro photography -- any thoughts?

A really good well thought out Tutorial, it's a great idea to name Masks and treat them as Layers - Thanks

A quick question: I Open some images in Photoshop so I can add Text Legends / descriptions on a text layer, of the photos Contents, I then export it back as a flattened image to LRC, so it is an additional Image in the Catalogue, then I convert both Photos into a Stack, If I want to amend the Photos Text, I have to repeat the same process, Any thoughts on my workflow ?

I would like to layer or composite two different shots. Can that be done in LR?

Is there a way of seeing all of your edits in the Basic Develop Panel in a list in a similar way to your Mask Layers ? I know you can click the eye for each Panel, but it is not as clear as your method of naming Masks.

Would that be the history panel on the left hand side?

@@billyyoung234 Are yoou exporting the file? If not, LR is non-destructive, so you can always go back on any of your edits. You only lose that on the exported file

@@Dal1970again Darren, you are totally correct, I keep on getting mixed up with PS Layers & LRC Layers, I need to do an experiment / test about my earlier "a quick question", and try Exporting a Layered PS file with a text Layer, as a TIFF file with layers to retain the editability of a Text Layer, because as far as I know you cannot export the layered file as a PSD file retaining the layers ! Thank you for your time, and prompt feedback
