Working with Eyelets and Grommets

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, Chuck gives us a quick overview of how we can use eyelets and grommets in our leather projects. Eyelets protect holes from wear, while grommets protect holes and strengthen the surrounding fabric. Setting them can be a bit tricky, but once you have the hang of it, eyelets and grommets instantly add durability to stress points on your project. They can also be used simply for decoration, to give your leather project a unique look!

This video just saved me so much "hard-way" learning. My belt hole eyelets are literally in the mail. Now at least I can use them for somewhere else where they'll be more useful. Now I need to figure out how to reinforce a hole... I'd LOVE a video on sweat resistant leathers and giving consideration to sweat damage, by the way. Especially choices for thicker 3-4 oz-ish options.

Man I love these videos. Chuck has given me more information in leather working than school gave me in all lessons.

@@WeaverLeatherSupply are the 12mm eyelets longer for thicker leather or are they the same length as the 8mm eyelets

You've never had two grand daughters left with you while setting eyelets. I've got to try removing two of them because they moved on the anvil during my second wack!

Chuck, this is very interesting. What do you use in belt hole to keep the hole from stretching? You only told us half the story. Plus the Little Wonder is way too costly crafters. Richard

I always use a 4x6 oblong on my belt holes. To me it looks better and the belt lays flatter with a center bar buckle..

Oohh I would like the little wonder, very useful for someone who does mostly belts. I'd pay like $60-80 for that......sees in comments it's over $400 like that's way too much for a manual machine

So what do you recommend for stretched out belt holes then if not eyeletes?

  • @WeaverLeatherSupply

For stretched out holes, you might have to go with a larger eyelet or grommet so that the tongue lays flat. If you notice in the video the grommet was just big enough for the tongue of the buckle to fit through but there was no wiggle room for the tongue to lay flat so you would have to account for that.

I bought a #8 setter, for use with kydex. Did I get the wrong size? It does look as big as your big one.

It depends on the size hole you want, you just have to make sure to buy the same size grommets as the setter.

Great vid. But the cost of the little wonder is ridiculous. $440.00! I paid $60 bucks for a cheap one that does the same thing and has lasted me over 10 yrs now. So as much as I appreciate weaver, the cost of all your equipment is insulting. SNS
