To MCARC & Sean - THANK YOU - three years after your presentation, this is very “on point” for me. I started, as a technician with a goal to talk to the ISS. Like many, I started out with UV5Rs, one for the uplink and one for the downlink. My first upgrade was a log-periodic VHF/UHF antenna to help to try move past the silence. When I switched to the ISS repeater frequencies, the silence ended. WOW! In SE TENN., the passage of the ISS is VERY BUSY. 73 KQ4IXD

Thank you so much for this video! I'm a new ham (also a teenager) and I've been really trying to figure out how to get into satellites. I've been struggling to find info anywhere on the internet that is relatively recent. This has a whole lot of awesome info in it. I'm working on building a tape measure yagi to use with my two Baofengs and I'm thinking about getting an arrow for my birthday :). I'm just waiting for some coax and SMA connectors to show up and I'll start getting on SO-50 or Cas-4A/4B. Now I'm gonna go figure out what the rest of these big ham radio words mean :). -73 KC3SFG

52:15 - so satellite QSOs between Europe and North America are perfectly possible? That's something really cool ;) I wonder what satellite DXes I could work from my QTH in Europe... 73 de SQ2KTN

I saw something from Ashhar Farhan which said that exceedsat had to be activitated with touch tone (I'm assuming pound but will need to find that again) I've heard exceedsat had problems, I'm not up on the specifics. I believe it also has 67hz.

I've had a two meter beam forever, I used it for MIR, and I intend to use it again. I now have a great UHF beam also, so looking forward to doing something soon. Your video is spurring me on. thanks. One think I haven't seen much about lately is the use of side band satellites. You had a mini portion of each band, you could put a ssb or cw sig into that area, but were told to only use as much power as you needed , and others could be right next to you , you were "reflected" to the other band. Are there sats up that do that now ? Apologize, hadn't watched quite far enough, I'm talking about Linear Sats which you covered very well.

I have a friend who has picked up a 9700 high powered radio, and needs a GOOD diplexer. I haven't been very happy with the ones I see out there, and I believe he needs one as low loss as the one in , say, a 8900 . So far, haven't found one for him. Is there a commercially sold diplexer with those low loss specs out there ? Also, an error I noticed, no big deal but, you said : eggbeater is really def (no preamp) on 70 cm. Works well for sats with a 70cm up link and a two meter downlink but (then you repeat I can't use satellites from home that have a "70cm up link and a two meter downlink" which should have been "70cm down link and two meter uplink". I know, picky picky Indecently, I do have an excellent UHF preamp I'm going to try for those occasions, and I'm building my own egg beaters. I just have to find the 96 ohm coax they all seem to use for phasing ! (without having to buy 50 feet for a dollar a foot, I only need one foot).

Hi Sean- I am just getting into Satellite communications and definitely bookmarked your video here. Question for you....In your portable operation with that Rover Bag and both radios, what kind of battery do you keep in that bag and aH rating? Just curious....Thanks for the great info!
