    It's true, sometimes working in an environment that's not an obvious fit can stretch us and grow another side we never knew. When working in banking I (an extreme introvert) acted more extroverted. But still it was a strain working with so many people. Thanks for sharing your story!

    I think it is much better to stay away being a teller, or in the operations in general, it is really a huge responsibility and risk, it is really hard to be in the frontline, you will deal with clients, you have to be 100 percent accurate on your transactions. You must always protect yourself and the bank from mistakes and from the fraudters.

    It's really a job for a certain type of personality. Having worked in the back office I was always amazed at how well of a job the frontliners did. Responding in real-time, never much time to think through a problem, as everything has to be solved asap with a customer in their face, while making sure sops are adhered to, everything is in agreement with compliance, while keeping a smile on their face. Luckily there are people who are suitable for this kind of environment!

    Which bank did you work in? I work at a bank in turkey and all the positive and negative aspects in the world as far as I understand the same. What is the average salary of a teller?

  • @MultipleCareers

    @MultipleCareers

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes I believe these aspects are quite universal around the world. It's interesting how industries have their own cultures. I worked for HSBC, but in this video I am not specifically talking about any particular bank, but my observations of the industry in general. Salary levels differ so much, but a teller wouldn't earn more than any other entry-level salary, which is only slightly above minimum wage. It's only in middle-management above where there is a larger range.

  • @MultipleCareers

    @MultipleCareers

    My banking interview was ages ago😂. But here are some general tips that might be useful: - Be resourceful, meaning even though you don't have the right/exact answer, show your thought process and reasoning behind it, this shows that you are able to consider various factors - In banking, integrity and conscientiousness is extremely important, take opportunities to demonstrate that. - Show knowledge of banking products (at least the basic ones) and competitors. They won't expect you to know everything, but at least come prepared with a basic understanding of financial products, that would give you an edge. - Show your understanding of customer service and a spirit of customer service. That will shine through your whole attitude during the interview (service-orientation, caring about the customer, etc.) I hope that's helpful!

    I need your help, I just got my first job as a banker. I have been in training for the last three weeks and I have another 8 weeks more. During my three weeks, I realized that this may not be the right fit for me. What do I need to do? Am scared to tell my boss I didn’t really know how much is going on , I am really not interested but confused whether I should stop or give it a chance. My boss is not really supportive

  • @MultipleCareers

    @MultipleCareers

    2 жыл бұрын

    I'm sorry to hear that it doesn't seem the right fit for you. Banking is a huge industry, and there are so many sub-businesses, departments, and functions within it. If this area is not suitable for you, there are a lot of other areas that you could explore. That being said, banking is really not for everyone, and it's okay if it's not for you. What to do next actually depends on what your options are, and how financially dependent you are on this job. If you have better options, then it makes sense to explore these as soon as possible, and move on, so you don't 'waste time' doing something you don't want to. On the other hand, if you don't have better options at the moment, or are not clear yet about what you would like to do instead, and need the money, then hanging in there for a bit could be a good idea, while figuring out what you want to do instead. The important thing is not to stay indefinitely. Learn as much as you can, and while doing that, start planning of your next move.

    @@MultipleCareers You are really owesome! Thank you so much for the feedback. As you said, my option is limited at least at this moment which makes it a little difficult. Part of me tells me I should be patient with myself and finish the training before making an assumption; on the the other hand, I feel like wasting my time in something that I don’t really enjoy. It’s tough decision to make especially when you are not finically secured. Let’s see what happens after I am done with the training but if I find anything with the same compensation I may call it quit. Much appreciated for your reply. Blessings!

    You can either try to move to other departments that are more suitable and have less interaction (if that's something that bothers you), or, consider changing to a completely different career.

    I could imagine that you could transfer your skills and work in banking operations in the USA. I'd suggest to try getting transferred internally within your company, or work for a multinational bank in India first, and then have them transfer you overseas.

Is it possible to reach out to you via DM? My background in the UK is in retail banking (management level) & in financial services as a mortgage consultant.
