One team one dream! Been with Best Buy for a over a year now and I'm on my third position change. Trying to get my foot in every door of every department in the store and setting my sights for leadership. I LOVE this company. Is it for everyone? No. Are there some bad eggs in the bunch? Sure. But over all, this is the best retail company I have ever worked for. BBY REPRESENT!

"my foot in every door of every department in the store" That makes no sense. How is that supposed to be good or give you a better chance at a boss position than just being in one department?

You dont make any money in retail unless you're in upper management or a store team lead. I hate to dim your ray of sunshine, but its a lost cause trying to have a positive outlook in retail.

This was the most accurate representation of what it's like working at Best Buy. I started in the Lifestyles Department, part time, then got promoted to the Computer Department. Now after a year I am now a Microsoft Expert. I have been with the company for a year now and playing a supervisor role. There's room for growth and can say it really is a fun job.

I worked there 2 years ago for 3 months because I couldn’t perform like they wanted me to. It’s a good company and I will always be a loyal customer but I’m not a sales person and I just couldn’t do the sales strategies they wanted me to. I cried while putting in my two weeks cuz I wish it could have worked out.

I think this review is very specific to your store/stores that you worked at. I've been an employee for 6+ years and my current store is complete garbage. Store management is clueless, shrink is through the roof, employees are mostly new or idiots, and turnover rate is extraordinary. Everyone watching this video should keep in mind that just because he loved his Best Buy experience, you may end up hating it.

**UNBIASED REVIEW*** Cons: From my experience, it's an EXTREMELY clicky environment. Favoritism is common in many jobs but in best buy it's king. Promotions rather than given on performance, are given based mainly on friendships & no extra compensation is given for exceeding expected numbers. The "bonus" is an extra amount of money given to every single employee if the store hits it's numbers regardless of how hard as an individual you worked. The "friends" that are on the good side are the ones that are invited to the bars & parties with the managers on weekends after closing. It's like high school all over again. Pros: Employee discount, flexible schedule, management is non threatening & very easy going, they seem to like buying food for these kids. Summary: Just a means to an end type of job or an extra money type of job guys, don't take it too seriously, don't work harder than what is required, & finish college... That's all... Much tougher jobs out there with waaaaay more sinister intentions.

True, although most people end up not working hard when they realize that performance doesn't get you a supervisor or management position. One thing I forgot to mention is that in most places management doesn't get invited out where as here they do because they are part of the clicks which intern affects their treatment of employees so that they can keep partying with them.

Worked there for nearly 2 years. Operations, order pickup, various VPL positions, etc. It truly is a store dependent experience. Pay I found, at the time anyway, was extremely low for what was asked of my role, especially in a full-time position. You'll have managerial duties if one isn't present but obviously your pay isn't matched. This can include counting each till in the store before/after close, dictating various breaks and lunches, processing warranty claims, etc. As a teenager or someone working through college, it's a fantastic part-time opportunity. For someone that needs to rely on the income for their day-to-day life, not so much. The overall atmosphere is what gives this job it's legs. Co-workers are great to chat with, leadership is generally affable, customers are usually interested in what you have to say. Just don't expect the pay to match your output.

I work for best buy as a seasonal worker. I work in the gaming department along side with the Home Theater department. I'd love to stay part time permanently. I do my job fairly well. I have multiple repeating customers coming in. I go at a very personal approach to my customers. I serve and use customer contracting methods. I never leave a person un-served, even if its a pain to handle, I'm more than excited to help someone even if I don't have knowledge of certain products. As a sales person just simply acknowledging them and letting them know that I'm here to help them is very important to me. Unfortunately, I have had multiple clock errors on my pay timers due to my methods. Best buy is an incredible place to work. I've never had a sales team that works so closely together like they do.

I just started as asset protection, and based off my security experience and general qualities that they appreciated they started me off at $17.50/hour. Every other retail location I've applied for LP at has tried to put me at the minimum. So from my view point at the beginning they do seem to care about their employees.

I got the job! They actually gave me 3 interviews. The first time they told me i was overly qualified for the position (i applied as an inventory specialist). The second interview was for a Device Connectivity Sales Consultant. N the final one was with the GM, he hired me on the spot….after it took me 30 minutes to talk about my tv (he wanted me to "Sell" it to him as if he was a customer).

I've been working at best buy for 2 years now and I say it is an awesome place to work, especially your first job. The employees are easy to connect with since we are all nerds about technology and selling. One thing is, you have to be confident when talking to customers and your superiors (managers and supervisors)

I am really interested in getting a job at best buy because of their tuition reimbursement program. The thing is the only positions available now are seasonal but i need to really get hired at least part time so i can move up to full time so i can work 6 months so i can get the tuition reimbursement...any suggestions on what i should do? should i still apply for the seasonal job anyway?

My daughter and I went to BestBuy to purchase a computer. Ther is a BestBuy close to our home. We found an Apple computer with the technical features we needed so we made the purchase. However, when the associate checked his cage for the model we purchased he found he did not have one available. He checked his computer and found that another BestBuy, approximately 8 miles away had the computer in stock. He told us we could purchase the computer at his store and pick it up at this other store. The associate told us all we needed to do was take the receipt and our ID and we would be able to pick up the computer. We completed our transaction but it had been a long day for us so we decided to wait until the following day to pick up the computer at the other store. The next day at approximately 2PM we go to the other BestBuy with our receipt and Identification. We go to the service desk, identify ourselves and my daughter gives the associate her ID and receipt for the pick-up (the receipt had my daughters name on it). The associate walks away then comes back with her manager and the manager ask my daughter if she has another form of ID in an accusatory tone. My daughter tells the manager that she has her social security card in the car and the manager says "oh so you don't have it on you". Then she says she is keeping my daughters drivers license and calling the police. She does all this with a smirk on her face. The associate is giving us a slight smile too. She also tells us that she is confiscating my daughters ID and tells us she cannot release the computer to us. At this point I realize that my daughter and I are being discriminated against because of the color of our skin. I tell my daughter that we should just get our money back and purchase the computer at the local military installation. I am a 32 year retired veteran. She didn't want to do that and just stood there with tears in her eyes. Next thing we knew we were surrounded by police. There were only 2 but they were blocking/impeding our way. My daughter is scared, frightened, and shaking at this point. The police ask my daughter if she has another form of ID and she tells him she has her SSN card and her university ID card she retrieved both from the card. She opens her wallet to show it to the police officer and he did not look at it. By this time there were people staring at us, snickering, pointing, smiling and whispering. The manager and her associate were still standing behind the counter with smirks on their faces. The police ask for another ID and my daughter shows her university ID but she did not even take all the way out of her wallet before the police officer gives her her drivers license back and says "ok you check out". But first he writes all of her information down in some type of book. We still do not have the computer yet and my daughter and I are feeling totally humiliated and embarrassed. We walk back to the counter and ask for the computer and the manager says she cannot release it now and has to call "corporate" . I'm am too angry to stay so I walk out the store. My daughter comes out the store approximately 15 minutes later in tears, crying. She was and still is too upset over what happened to go about her daily routine. interested in comments from anyone who had a similar experience with best buy

That's a crazy story, I've never seen anything like that happen before. I'd call the local news, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and against the officers (They shouldn't need any secondary form of ID if they already had her state ID/License) and call Best Buy's corporate office to explain the issue and demand both the item you paid for and an apology. I don't see how in the world an associate or manager could have the balls to say they are confiscating her ID. This is disgusting and I'm extremely sorry that you and your daughter had to go through that.

7coolkids you can definetly not buy a computer from a store and go pick it up at another store. They arent sharing their inventory between one another... did the first employee who sold you the mac try to frame you and steal the mac you bought???

Best Buy employees have the ability to accept payment for an item that is stocked at another store. There's a separate program on the POS that allows them to do that (I'm a former employee). Standard procedure is/was to call the other store to verify stock and have them set it aside at customer pickup, then complete the transaction at the first store. This ensures that the employee who did the legwork is not losing the sale, which counts toward their daily sales target (for performance and not commission). Now, as far as the system working all the time, that's another story...

I was just wondering if you ever got this issue resolved. Problems like this when an employee doesn't represent the company properly they make the whole company look bad. When a customer purchases something at one store and picks it up at another store, the only two things they need are a driver's license or state ID and the credit card used during the purchase. No additional forms of ID are needed, and stores aren't allowed to confiscate IDs.

BBY is not as bad as some of you are saying. When i Worked there for 4 years the managers were most of the time nice to me and others. Sure sometimes they would pull us aside and be like "how come you havent sold any BBY credit cards lately" the typical retail stuff. Or the "our numbers are down this quarter need to improve". Other than Holidays its a calm place to work. Discounts are great for certain items. I have a interview with BBY again as im trying to come back.
