Last week I caught a USFS DHC-2 Beaver doing touch and goes at my neighborhood airport in northeast Minnesota, so like any reasonable fan of this legendary radial engine bush plane, I shot some video of it with my iPhone. I hope you all can appreciate the beauty of a Beaver on wheels landing in a crosswind and the talented pilot at the controls.
The US Forest Service operates a small fleet of de Havilland Beavers from their Superior National Forest base on Shagawa Lake in Ely, Minnesota. While they spend the summer months on floats, in winter they return to wheels and skis to patrol the frozen north. Read more about the program here: bck.pt/beaver
Please following our other channels @impulsecoupling and @badaxelens ( / @badaxelens ) for music, synthesizers, electronics DIY, abstract drone videos, and experimental cinema-the stuff I enjoy but won't upload to Backcountry Pilot.

Whether it's Radials or V engines I love the sound of large capacity piston engines.
Don’t see beavers on pavement too often. Thanks for posting this
I really liked your older work and glad to see something new. You have something here. Thanks for taking the time to put something together for us~ Cheers!

I'm not done yet. Just been preoccupied. Sitting on a heap of new gear and excited to produce new stuff. Just need willing participants!

@@BackcountryPilot Where are you based out of? I spoke with Island Airways last summer about meeting up for some filming. They were super open to it. Would be neat to see some content out there exploring these smaller mom and pop operations.

Me too.
Beautiful crosswind technique and a wonderful aircraft.
Beautiful airframe. They don't make them like they used to. Also, great to see you around! :)
Nothing beats the birch and piney runways of the range and beyond. beautiful video my friend.
We need more of this. What’s wrong with you? Get out there and make it happen! 😉
He did a great job. Awesome to see you post...hope you do it more often!
Yes! Love it!
Good to see some new content, definitely miss it! Awesome as always
The beauty of flying!
Love those planes...
Hello, Beavers are the best ! I'm only a virtual pilot but the Beaver is my plane in MSFS.
Nice ..Very NICE !
That looks like a groundlooping SOB to me
Beautiful aircraft!
Reminds me of landing my C-120 in a 25 MPH cross at Santa Ynez. A C-120 isn't exactly a Beaver but it can still be a handful in a crosswind 👍
Channel is still alive, yayy!! Thank you

On life support perhaps. I have some great stuff in the can, just need to edit. This Beaver thing was very spontaneous.

@@BackcountryPilot It's winter in the great white north, what else are you going to do!! Go ice skating, fishing, skiing? ;)

@@implanecrazyme6246 Pretty much! I mainly need to find some ski flyers to hang out with to shoot more vids. Then skiing, skating, video editing and composing (as @impulsecoupling)
You would think standing on the upwind side of the runway is being careful, you'd be wrong. Surprised the pilot didn't make them move. I have.
I was wondering if you were ever going to make another video, I've always liked your content. Whatever happened to the videos you posted a while back when you were flying the blue carbon cub SS? I liked those videos, you took them down? Those videos inspired me to start flying tailwheel, and now I own a supercub! I would love to see those videos again!

You might have this channel confused with another? No blue Carbon Cubs here. I can't even afford to reassemble my old Pacer.

@@BackcountryPilot oh, OK. Sorry about that. I thought it was the guy that was narrating in the video on your channel titled, "déjà vu, Alaska." That's not you? I thought he was flying a blue rental carbon cub SS a while back. Maybe I do have it confused.

@@AV8R_1 We used to have a red and white Sport Cub S2 for rent at Twin Oaks outside Portland, Oregon. I flew that quite a bit.
Ran the number, and it's a USDA forest service plane out of Boise Id. Wonder what he is doing there? I always like EVM, because of the grass runways. KHIB is closer, but no grass.

What information are you conveying when you're "for the option"?

I think it means "the option to full stop or touch-and-go, I'll let you know when it happens."

Yep, you get to decide… low approach, touch and go, stop and go, full stop
Do I see correctly the pilot retracting flaps just before touchdown?

Makes sense. Spoil the lift quickly
@mothmagic1
Жыл бұрын
Yes, quickest way to eliminate the extra lift they convey. I remember the story but can't remember where I read it about the RAF lifting out a Beaver as an underslung load in Malaya or Borneo and when they reached 55 knots they found the Beaver trying to fly alongside them. Needless to say the wings were removed on future occasions when they needed to underslung them.
Pilot needs more left aileron crosswind correction put in. Should be landing left wheel first.
