Elektron Not at all, this video takes shortcuts and skips allthe bits you need to set up in advance with sampling modes etc. Also doesn't show how to save samples. If sampling was this easy on the octa I wouldn't have sold mine. I found the awkwardness of sampling & editing samples to be the main reason I sold it.
@WeAreElektron
9 жыл бұрын
aikighost There were no shortcuts or preparation done during the sampling section. This sampling method will work straight out of the box - of course there are many other ways to sample with the Octatrack which will require changing the setup. You can also save the captured samples into the CF Card via the sample edit menu. The only preparation done was slicing up the Machinedrum sample wavefile which is explained during the video.
@aikighost

Elektron Well was this changed in an update? I always found it a total nightmare to sample on the octa when I had mine. Also the manual wasn't very helpful. you can also resample any number of tracks onto one track, to free up tracks. plus there are 8 MIDI tracks for external gear. and now they've added conditional trigs. truly limitless. only downside to the OT now is the reverb is subpar compared to their newest machines. if OT had Digitakt reverb, forget about it.

This sample seems to go for about 25 seconds, but this is on a FLEX machine, isn't there a 16 second limit to FLEX machine sampling? Or is this something I can change by consolidating bufer memory to a single track or tracks in system settings?

@rhythmdroid
8 жыл бұрын
yes, but it's 1 sample voice per MIDI channel--so you wouldn't be able to play "polyphonic" information, like chords. Octatrack's area of high expertise is hits, stabs, loops, beats, etc. I usually play chords on another synth and sample them in.

I notice most people using this product to make sounds more fine or smaller, how is this machine in making smaller sounds bigger, does it doing anything like that very well? can the octatrack expand the original sound into a larger dimensional audio property.
@rhythmdroid
8 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Sample in a sound, slow it down, then run it through an EQ in effect block 1 and a Spatializer in effect block 2. If you want more, you can feed the output of that track into the input of another track and add 2 MORE effects, like reverb and delay.
@rhythmdroid
8 жыл бұрын
The included "spatializer" effect is actually pretty powerful, allowing you to independently adjust volume for mid information and side information of a sample. It's like a widener.
@claytonlevibrown
8 жыл бұрын
this product looks and sounds like the best for the market of what it does but everyone that uses it always ends up shrinking everything so I ugees it all comes down to the user making the sounds based on what you're telling me.
@rhythmdroid
8 жыл бұрын
Making things sound "big" is an artform in production. It has to do a lot with the relative volume, EQ, and effects depth of objects. Octatrack is a sampler with effects, so it's also important to note that you need to also try and sample "big" sounds from the start.

ferdi özbeğen diyince anladım zaten :)
what's the maximum sample time?
its 2023 my mew addition
HEY JAKE
this guy makes it look so easy but it's not that easy
That delay control was sick. Didn't even know it had that
Props for using 50 year old Turkish music for the sample material.
Sounds a bit like muslimgauze. Love the octa btw.

Dunno about using a drumloop in a product presentation. Obviously still a great machine.

why? this makes no sense, you know an entire genre of music evolved out of a drumloop right? don't limit yourself
@flowerpower111

inf0tr8r That is different. This is more like a sample pack tier drumloop, not like the amen break or something.

-_- nice
This is the Sample in case you guys are wondering: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qoCupqxtj92ngJM.html
are you limited to 8 tracks on this machine or are there ways of going beyond that limit?
@AsyncLive

Each note trig can have a different sample and different settings (128 in total I believe), the limit is endless

you can also resample any number of tracks onto one track, to free up tracks. plus there are 8 MIDI tracks for external gear. and now they've added conditional trigs. truly limitless. only downside to the OT now is the reverb is subpar compared to their newest machines. if OT had Digitakt reverb, forget about it.
This sample seems to go for about 25 seconds, but this is on a FLEX machine, isn't there a 16 second limit to FLEX machine sampling? Or is this something I can change by consolidating bufer memory to a single track or tracks in system settings?

Its 16sec default x8 rec buffers. You could set it for one rec buffer @16 bit, allowing to use all the 84mb ram buffer. Set it up at system - memory. Just save your recording buffers or its gone
How many of you Octatrack users out there are still trying to figure out how to assign a specific tempo to a pattern? ;)

hey,can i connect a midi keyboard with the octatrack to play samples like a piano or strings ?
@rhythmdroid
8 жыл бұрын
yes, but it's 1 sample voice per MIDI channel--so you wouldn't be able to play "polyphonic" information, like chords. Octatrack's area of high expertise is hits, stabs, loops, beats, etc. I usually play chords on another synth and sample them in.
great video, great machine! but the display is such a turnoff for this price...
Modern Boom Bap would be better to demonstrate than House music!!

I notice most people using this product to make sounds more fine or smaller, how is this machine in making smaller sounds bigger, does it doing anything like that very well? can the octatrack expand the original sound into a larger dimensional audio property.
@rhythmdroid
8 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Sample in a sound, slow it down, then run it through an EQ in effect block 1 and a Spatializer in effect block 2. If you want more, you can feed the output of that track into the input of another track and add 2 MORE effects, like reverb and delay.
@rhythmdroid
8 жыл бұрын
The included "spatializer" effect is actually pretty powerful, allowing you to independently adjust volume for mid information and side information of a sample. It's like a widener.

this product looks and sounds like the best for the market of what it does but everyone that uses it always ends up shrinking everything so I ugees it all comes down to the user making the sounds based on what you're telling me.
@rhythmdroid

Making things sound "big" is an artform in production. It has to do a lot with the relative volume, EQ, and effects depth of objects. Octatrack is a sampler with effects, so it's also important to note that you need to also try and sample "big" sounds from the start.
@claytonlevibrown

The "analog" oscillators on the octatrack sound like crap compared to old vintage synths. The tiny circuitry just doesn't cut it.
@alienanxiety
6 жыл бұрын
on the chance you aren't just trolling ... the OT doesn't have any oscillators, and it isn't an analog machine.
All that time it took to sample...then you don't even use the good part of the sample,you could have just played that little 2 bar sample in real time on a synth.
MAKE OTHER GENRES (or let someone else do it). I don't want to hear the same bullshit edm every fucking time. I don't even bother watching. boots and hats and boots and hats and boots and hats till my fucking ears bleed.
