When i was 17 i saw a psychologist under a mental health plan. I saw her 3 times, didnt like her so i went to see another one, and found out all of my sessions had been used.. discovered the psychologist was charging falsly, even when i was interstate. Reported her for medicare fraud, when they went to investigate all of a sudden her practice was empty and she ran. Its caused me so much distrust in those who im 'supposed' to trust, and left me unable to access treatment i needed

Sounds like there needs to be better checks and balances in the system. The absolute vast majority of practitioners are hard working, honest and work exorbitant hours for not that much money. Maybe show the other side of the story for the 99.9% of practitioners who stay late, arrive early and sacrifice family time to serve their patients.

yea I work as a biller in a non-profit hospital. Most of our doctors and allied health have no clue/time on how to bill and severely under bill. Meanwhile, we are not allowed to bill without a signed consent form in perfect condition and we lose millions because of it and write off accounts. For-profit healthcare with weak regulators is a recipe for disaster.

I reported a specialist for blatant unethical medical treatment and Medicare fraud; the government authority that I wrote to not only failed to investigate my complaint, they sent him a copy of my letter making these serious criminal allegations against him; when I rang the authority to follow up, they hung up on me.

@@crypt2732 Dr, I checked his credentials on his company's site. He states that he is a "graduate of a Bachelor in Health Science and Masters [sic] of Podiatric Medicine". wouldn't be hard for Services Australia to send an automated text message to the patient with what they were billed for, written in laymans terms. For MBS items too.

@@Early0025simple solution would be to include it as a opt in notification scheme of X amount charged on medicare for services on X date either by text/email/post just like a normal bill or bank statement. That way if you see a odd charge you can call medicare to ask what it was for and/or report it.

Everyone just after gouging money from us, the doctors, the lawyers, the insurers, the IME's. I had one exercise physiologist, I wasn't getting any better, but she'd frame her reports to try and sound like the therapy was helping so she could keep getting appoinmtents approved. I had a brain injury, incredible fatigue, yet she said my grip strenght had gotten better, here's the thing, we never did grip strength exercises and the test depended on how good a grip i got each test, I realised these guys weren't just about treatment but repeat appointments.

When will someone shine a proper light on the unhealthy relationship - certainly within Workers Comp and CTP - between a minority of health professionals (including GPs and surgeons) and (at least some) plaintiff law firms? It takes a sadly lacking individual to have the lack of virtue and substance to work under such a model, but it certainly pays well to deliberately not fix people and keep them broken indefinitely. The ill-won fruits of this get to be enjoyed by many living in cushy suburbia whilst honest workers see their livelihoods go down the drain.

The dishonesty and lack of integrity in these professions is gob smacking. Hope these types do not access Essential workers housing. All patients must have a receipt for services. Billing addresses need to be confirmed by the patient before any "consultation" is processed.

Having been a provider for the DVA, this would be fantastic, however many on the DVA programs are elderly and/or suffering from PTSD, and may not have the wherewithal to store the receipts appropriately. There’s no reason why the department cannot undertake audits, especially for unusual billing practices.
