Workation in rural Japan: Regional revitalization, "with corona" remote work solution

Subscribe: kzread.info...
Prior to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus some regions and organizations in Japan were promoting the concept of the "workation" (work + vacation) as a way to encourage longer-term stays among visitors and travelers to rural Japan and thus contribute to a more sustainable regional revitalization model. The workation was also seen as reflective of efforts on the part of authorities in Japan to encourage a shift in thinking among the workforce and employers from one of overwork toward a healthier work-life balance.

Following the outbreak of the virus the workation has arguably assumed greater responsibility and is seen by some as one solution or aid to the "with corona" lifestyle in which those who can are encouraged to work remotely in order to reduce cramped office spaces and crowded train commutes.
In this video we reflect on the workation experiences team City-Cost had in 2020, both pre-corona and during. The video takes us to the Nishi-awa region of Tokushima Prefecture on the island of Shikoku and to the Urabandai region of Fukushima Prefecture.
*Editor's note: The workation experiences mentioned in this video took place in early January 2020 and early November 2020 and were conducted in accordance with virus prevention guidelines at those times. We hope this video encourages thought and discussion about the potential merits of the workation as a means toward regional revitalization and a remote-work solution. Before deciding to go ahead with any workation experience of your own, we encourage you to stay abreast of the situation regarding the virus outbreak and follow the guidelines and / or recommendations from experts and authorities.
