You don't need to live like a king in Malaysia. Just have a small patch of land in your backyard to grow some vegetables, park your SUV in your front yard, adopt a dog or a cat or both from a shelter, and tuck them in your back seat , then head out from your Taman to the mountains or the beach, stopping in small towns for authentic local food… daily life for those Malaysian retirees is good enough. (From a Malaysian in his 50s who has lived in 4 different countries including Singapore for over 20 years)

actually retirement in Malaysia is more suitable for poorer Singaporeans as their wealth increase 3.5X and they can indulge in better housing and better food. Example a family that earns Abt 5k a mth can only dream of staying in landed and having restaurants meals every week. . But for people like Mr Loo why give up the safety, medical excellence etc when he can afford it easily. Rich ppl flock to Singapore and less well off goes to Malaysia.

Please Put in double the effort to think about how to grow rich, don’t waste time trying to save pennies, collecting discount coupons etc. that’s a waste of brain cells. Have a mindset of abundance, aim higher.

Your kids will hate u if you purposely live so far from them in Malaysia or overseas and so mar fun cannot go to help the parents when they fall sick. Be prepared to stay in nursing home in Malaysia if you choose to do so. Speaking from experience of having old ailing parents living in Malaysia. Always stay near your kids. Ask these parents to Wake up their silly idea. Stay a few years oversea for a different experience is ok, but still need to come back to Singapore when you are Lou Kok Kok, unless you want to stay in Malaysia nursing home. But it’s as good as living in jail, Becos you depend on your kids from Singapore to visit you to bring you out to Jalan Jalan and how often can your kids do that? Once a month? Weekly? Your kids weekends will be burnt doing that for you.

Totally agree and is very misleading for mr loo to keep encouraging people to move toMalaysia. Mr Loo have relative and social support in JB. Without that its a no to move to Jb at old age. To add on, Im an ex-malaysian

Win win for Malaysians to work in Singapore. Gold mine. Malaysian smart strategy and get a Singapore PR easily. Keep your Malaysian citizenship. Go to Australia and get another PR as a safe bet in case Singapore and Malaysia got affected by the US involvement in the South China Seas war with China. Singaporeans are living in their comfort zones, and for how long? Singaporeans pampered lots, especially young generations who have not experienced hardships.

So how has the hardships from Malaysia helped you since their independence, please share. Singapore is what it is today Becos Singaporean worked hard towards it. I’m a Malaysian who has benefited from Singapore’s education system. I thank Singapore not Malaysia. Malaysia after Anwar will regressed after the recent policies the govt adopted. The smart ones left Malaysia for good. Singapore is comfortable because we have the smart brains to make it so, Malaysia is still suffering Becos of their own doing. Wonder when will Malaysia get out of hardship.

Don't be naive. A foreigner will never live like a king in Malaysia nor will be treated like one. If you are a foreigner and live like a king in Malaysia your king lifestyle will attract alot of unwanted attention and you will soon find yourself a victim of.... (rather not say but every Malaysian knows).

Simple life is hard to define, after retirement the health factor is extremely important. Find more senior age people to share their perspectives at 60 or even 70s.

It's all fun and joy retiring overseas. Many ppl are doing it. So I don't understand why ppl are so adverse when it come to retiring in jb. lol. some ppl I know are doing it in Nz And Oz or Thailand and not much fuss and discussion on it. IMO retirement in general needs careful planning not just retiring in jb. Needing care in your old age while retired in Johor Bahru or anywhere else, may require careful planning, including exploring healthcare options, establishing support networks, and ensuring legal and financial arrangements are in place to meet your needs effectively. Besides not all parents would want to be close to their children as their children have their own family when they grow up and have their own goals. In fact these days many friends I know of are the ones staying/working/marry overseas leaving behind their parents in Sg. 😅 So it all depends on your circumstances. You can don't follow Mr Loo and agree to disagree. He have his target audience who have similar circumstances. Ultimately, the preferences are diverse and can differ based on individual circumstances, geography, social support and personal values. If it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it does not work for others. ✌🏾

Singaporean guys serve the national service, two years down in the workforce against Malaysians and other countries. Singapore now is a good place to make money and not the next decade with strong competition from Asean countries. Property, food prices, medical, utilities so expensive.

Ever consider the medical cost and lifestyle choices after 60 yrs old? Let's say you wanna retire at age 55 or 60, but CPF money is still locked. No choice but to continue working right? Then wouldn't any country out of SG be more attractive?

With people like that Loo guy promoting the idea that frugality and having a simple life is a deprived way of living one’s retirement, now you know why Singapore, being globally recognised as one of the wealthiest city states of the world, its people are not among the happiest in the world. Perhaps the concept of happiness needs to be reframed.
