"Work ethic, courage and discipline distinguish the Bombay Bar."

Iqbal Chagla said that work ethic, discipline and courage distinguish the Bombay Bar. "Work ethic of the Bombay Bar is unrivaled", he said. Many judges have on various occasions, praised the Bombay Bar. Justice K.G. Shah from Gujarat was one of the many judges who have appreciated the Bombay Bar. Justice Shah came from Allahabad where there were no more than five or six matters on the roster everyday. He then came to Bombay where from 11:00 am until 4:45 pm, counsels were ready to argue the matter. "He said that was just amazing", recollected Iqbal Chagla about a conversation with Justice Shah.
"It is a very disciplined Bar and a very courageous Bar.....or at least it was", he said. He had been, as president of the Bombay Bar Association, responsible for moving resolution against five judges on grounds of corruption and lack of integrity. It was ultimately passed against four judges. Iqbal Chagla said that he firmly believed that a good lawyer isn't one who merely takes fees and argues a matter, but also believed in being accountable to the Bar. "It is that accusing finger of posterity to which I must have an answer", he had said at that time.
A former Chief Justice of India, once remarked that all the "bad eggs" must be sent to the Bombay Bar, since it was an independent and strong Bar. When he met this judge, Iqbal Chagla had told him, "Our job is not to police our judges. We are there to argue our matters... appear before judges and hold them in high respect".

It is my dream to see such upright lawyers. I have no idea about his biography, but his voice is so pleasing. Hope and pray that his soul is intact.
