I absolutely love fjallraven. As a keen outdoorsman, I find their clothing and equipment is top notch and I buy it with confidence that it will preform exactly as I expect it to and as they claim it will. Because of that I overlook the ticket price which can often raise an eyebrow. I am also impressed with their ethos on environmental concerns and how they try to minimise the environmental impact manufacturing their products may have.

Good point about wool's natural water resistance. I have an old Austrian hunting coat and aside it being impervious to wind, being really warm and weighing a ton, I was surprised how water resistant it is. Take an age to dry but it doesn't seem to wet out either...

Thanks for the great information about wool as a fiber, especially in comparison to other materials. I've been opting for wool and wool blends as much as possible any time I'm looking at buying new clothing now. It's just warmer, nicer and as you mentioned it handles humidity in a very elegant way.

One question: how much wool would it take to build a true winter parka, where wool is the primary/only insulation? How many grams/square meter of wool would you need to stay warm at a cold temp like -3C? Would that garment just become prohibitively expensive or prohibitively heavy? After looking at Fjallraven's product like, I don't see any garments that are both predominantly wool and also good for super cold temperatures.

This is a beautiful, awesome video. Thank you. You mentioned how wool is flame resistant and will just sort of turn to char instead of lighting on fire. Do you have any information on whether wool does a good job of insulating against hot temperatures? I’m wondering whether it could be used as material for an oven mitt.

  • 2 жыл бұрын

Wool has an ignite temperature of 570-600°C. I'm not sure about the insulating properties though. Try it at your own risk :) Have a nice day! / Lucas

As a test, of course, make a small hat from some leftover wool yarn, fold it over once or so, and see how it works before sizing up to something like a full size oven mitt.

Have you done water studies to assess how much clean water is used in growing and dying a square metre of wool compared to other sources?

  • 2 жыл бұрын

Hi, We are using Higg MSI to see what affect different fibers have on the environment. Fibers are one thing and then better or less better "dyeing methods" can be used. All wool is not dyed the same way. Water is just one parameter we are looking at. CO2 emssions and chemicals are other factors to consider. For fibers: Wool: 1,75 m3 water/kg material Cotton: 120 m3 water/kg material Polyester: 1,05 m3 water/kg material

Fantastic insights, thank you. Love Fjällräven's mindful weave with and for the environment and its creatures. Curiously and interested to invest: Which shell and insulation jackets is Morten Hilmer insulated with in his latest nikon z9 video please, is it the Keb ec0-shell ?

  • 2 жыл бұрын

Hi! thank you. Yes it is the Keb eco-shell. The insulation piece is not from us, but you can find similar alternatives in Expedition Pack Down Hoodie, Expedition Lätt Hoodie or Bergtagen Lite Insulation Jacket. Have a nice weekend! / Lucas
