Woodturning - The MASSIVE Oak Burl Stabilization and Casting

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this woodturning video, I begin the process of working on a punky Oak Burl by stabilizing it and then casting it in resin as a preparation for turning. I got the burl from ‪@rusticriverwoodworks4158‬ a while back, so looking forward to turning it!

Hello Daniel, that is a nice piece of casting that you made. You say that you wait until the epoxy reaches a temperature of 90 /95 degrees, is that Fahrenheit or Celsius? I usually wait until the epoxy is about 80 degrees Celsius before I start to pour.

  • @TournageDubois

Thanks, Hans! The temperature that I wait for is in Fahrenheit, mainly because of the working time of the resin. This resin has about a 12-15 minute working window, so 90-95 degrees Fahrenheit is around the 10-11 minute mark.

It's like the St. Patrick's day piece, or the other elm burl. It's hollow inside with a smaller opening (like a vase).
