Woodturning - So Glad I Saved It!

So this piece of English Oak has been outside for a while now... I'm sure you could tell. I was never 100% sure of what I wanted to do with it, but the idea came to mind when I started turning. I didn't want to waste the angled part at the top so decided to make it a feature.
The bread bin has been sanded to 10000 grit and finished with Danish oil and Wood wax.
The main body is English oak, the lid is Sapele, and the handle is African blackwood.
Let me know what you think!

My videos are for entertainment purposes only. I am still relatively new to woodturning and some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest. When using any tools or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines.
Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practise. The gloves I wear are tight fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT do anything you don’t feel comfortable doing.

Absolutely nuts to start that turn without cutting those corners off first.

Hello Harry what an amazing biscuit / bread barrel it is really really amazing well turned well done I love it. Amanda xx
Nice, innovative design. I love how it almost looks like a stylized apple, given the shape of the body and the way you did the top and handle. Well done!

Turning of any shape of wood has its tenuous moments. The legs I've turned were all square or rectangular. That being said, the larger the cube/square the more alert you need to be. Just a bit of tension release on either of the centers can be shaky. I stand on pins and needles until a rounder shape appears. Anyway, very nice. I enjoy watching him work and picking up pointers. He seems to be very safety conscious.
That’s a great idea love it good to see you back

This was a really nice looking, and very well done piece. I have to admit I am 71 and haven't gotten used to some of the non-symmetrical areas on a finished product that seem to have gotten popular the past few years. That's just me though, and it really doesn't take away from the beauty of this piece. I like the way the cracks were filled, without having to flood it with epoxy resin, and then do a lot more turning on the lathe. Thanks.
What a result…😃 beautiful

@@HarrySmithWoodturning hmmmm..... I suppose it could resemble a cross breed/non traditional pumpkin. But isn't that what makes it interesting and unique?? 😀😀
I'm just curious ... Why wouldn't you band saw the corners off to make it an octagon shape before you started? Seems like it would save some time and be easier.
Nicely done.

@@HarrySmithWoodturning It does and I did not even see it at first. I remember my granny's bread box. It was insulated with a shiny tin on the outside. She lived on a farm and the house was 70 years old so mice sis on occasion get in. But the bread was always safe. Your box would be a good safe unless the mice chewed on the wood. I've seen them chew through the thickest plastic. Yucky when they do that. I have to say the mice are kind of cute, though.
Wow ! Just , Wow ~!
