Woodturning - Multi axis spindle turning - Off centre turning project - Apple Goblet.
Ойын-сауық
Hello and welcome to the channel. In this video I take a piece of green, unseasoned apple branch and turn a small goblet on the woodturning lathe. To achieve the unusual shape this piece was turned on and off centre over three different positions.
I have always loved multi axis/eccentric turning as it's a super delicate process from the start. A decent grip on the chuck is extremely important, sharp tools and taking very light cuts. To really show this, none of the footage has been sped up although it has been edited down from approximately 45 minutes total.
Being green wood no finish was applied.
The music is an original piece kindly recorded by a very talented, piano playing buddy. For more piano stuff, music theory lessons and even the occasional beer brewing stream, check him out at: / videos

That Poor lonely deformed goblet...I could have cried......wait, that was just the music! Excellent turn my friend! Smooth cuts and great streamers but I genuinely feel like having a little cry. The music conjured up images of two never to be lovers, parting ways in a rainy Parisian park......or something. lol.....over active imagination maybe! Cheers, Dave

Haha cheers Pete! It's one of those projects where you don't blink for 45 mins 😂 They have been known to go into orbit now and then! My first go a few years back flew off and got me square in the face, had the respirator on so no foul, very rarely turn without it. Gets the adrenaline pumping for sure!
The finished goblet looks amazing and really sparks the imagination. I don't know how you make it look so easy... what a skilled and clever nephew I have. B

Wow. It's all I can say. Wow. Absolutely beautiful work, and I held my breath all the way through the off-centre turning. I probably say this every time but that's one of your best Pog. And please communicate to Dave that I thought the piano-playing here was just lovely. Cheers mate.

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, music is like art, very subjective. Hopefully the next one will help to lift your mood 😊
A little more info would be nice, like explaining what your doing while your turning,.

In terms of an explanation, I don't know tons about it other than what I know feel right vs wrong. If something isn't working I'll come in from a different angle. I've learnt everything I know by watching others and lots of trial and error. For the most part, what I do is from how it feels to do rather than knowing the theory. My apologies.
Better shoot closer.
