Woodturning Lathe Extendable Dust Collection Arm
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I share my solution for holding and positioning my dust collection hood. Solutions that mount the hood on the lathe body or floor haven't worked for me either because they interfere with the banjo or they just take up floor space that I don't have.

A few years old but this will be the basis of my new set up also. Cheers for the video.

And I still use this setup!
I looked at many, many ideas on KZread for a lathe dust collection hood, yours is the best! It's adjustable for many situations and easy to build. Great design, thanks for sharing!
I have been trying to get around to this problem for some time and yours is the best I've come across. Starting it tomorrow!
Great idea and design! I am starting this project today! Just the solution I needed.
Lots of good ideas on your setup. Thanks.
Great idea!
Thanks for the great video and neat design. I am surprised of the rigid support of the arm with only one bolt. I just bought an American Beauty Robust lathe and I assume you also like yours. I was wondering where to find the clear plastic dust hood you show in your video. You mention of it being in catalogs but so far I can't find it. I have the "Big Gulp" black plastic hood but I wonder if the flip down front flap might be better when sanding? I was also thinking of trying to use 1" steel pipe slid inside 1-1/4" steel pipe and anchored to the sliding cleat with a 1" floor flange. Then the 1-1/4" steel pipe mounted to a wooden block with a 1-1/4" floor flange to hold the dust hood. Then tap a hole in the 1-1/4" pipe for a thumb screw to secure it where needed when slid on the wall mounted 1" steel pipe. Then perhaps also make the wooden block holding the hood with some slots to move up and down for vertical adjustment. Please let me know where to find the hood in your video. Thanks, Myles

Thanks much.
that's some good thinking.....
Clever design! I wish you would have included a clip of it in action. Would you say it gets 75% of the chips? or more?
