Woodturning: From Siberia with Pink
Ойын-сауық
Thank you to all my subscribers and viewers! I truly appreciate you all. I can't believe we are about to hit 30,000 subscribers! Wow! Thank you so much!
This is my 22nd filmed project, and it was chosen based on an Instagram poll out of 3 upcoming projects. I hope you enjoyed this one. I find that I gravitate to the more artsy side of woodturning. This piece of Siberian Elm burl was very dry, and due to all the voids and holes, it would have been impossible to use wax and high friction without getting pieces of disintegrated paper towel stuck in the piece. So I ended up sanding to 600-800 and applying multiple coats of oil before letting it sit overnight. It is a fairly rustic piece, and I hope the finial complements it well. In hindsight, I should have ripped that piece of pink ivory a few times in order to save that precious material, but I had a plan for the shape that required the full diameter of the blank. Funny how plans don't always come together...
Cheers to all!

As the master reaches for his tools and the tools make contact the the spirit of the wood is slowly revealed. What a gift thanks for sharing brother
Gorgeous wood and I love the mixture of the woods for the finial.
The souls of all the carpenters of Russia's tragic and harsh past smile down on you from heaven. The echos of onion top churches and magnificent journey via Maine. Well done as always this one's truly from Russia with love.
