Woodturning - Finding the Beauty of Walnut

This was a real joy to make. I went back to the basics on this project. Nothing fancy, other than just wanting to bring out the beauty of some walnut. So, here you go. I hope your like it. Thanks for watching. --Dan

    Very nice as usual! Love walnut-the way it takes a finish. Made a quilt platter like yours for sister a quilter. Watched & followed closely & glued one maple square on the wrong side of paduck & P.H. , told wife of problem & she thought she could make it work- no such luck. Put it in any way& told sis it was a humility block.

    Walnut is one of my favorite woods to turn. Last year I made a cake stand for one of my sisters in law. And it turned out great. I am not exactly sure what it is about walnut, but it is a beautiful wood like your bowl.

    I agree completely. I love walnut. Here is a gentleman in my area that found out that I donate most of my art to charity auctions. He asked that I come over to his barn so that he could give me some wood. To my great surprise, I came home with over 700 board feet of walnut! So, I've got it coming out of my ears. LOL! Thanks for watching.

    Hi David! Thank you! This is domestic black walnut. A friend who owns a tree cutting service dropped off the trunks in my yard last year. Later today, he and his wife will be the proud owner of this bowl as a thank you from me. Take care friend! Keep up your great work! It makes my day when I get a new notification from your channel!

    Thanks for watching Lynda! It's called a sanding bumble bee. It has a velcro flat side which holds a 3 inch sanding disc. It works great for woodturning and protects your hand from heat. Also, I download music from www.epidemicsound.com. Their variety of music is awesome!

    Really beautiful bowl Dan! Great variety in the grain too. When you make the rings, do you keep the segments in order as they are cut? Or is it just random?

  • @LivingstonBrothersWoodcraft

    @LivingstonBrothersWoodcraft

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for watching Jeff! Sometimes. If I'm doing more than 12 segments per ring, the angle of cut is less and you can achieve a nice grain-match. With this walnut top ring, I basically just tried to keep the color tone together.
