Woodturner David Ellsworth at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

The Philadelphia Museum of Art hosts an exhibition, curated by the museum’s Elisabeth Agro, of the sculptural objects of woodturner David Ellsworth as part of their “At the Center: Masters of American Craft” series. Ellsworth speaks about his highly innovative work, the tools and techniques he invented, and his decades long career as a master craftsman, educator, author, and thinker about art.

    Beautiful inspirational work. Embracing imperfection is part of turning for me. Achieving an appealing balance is the tricky bit.

    Beautiful turnings and woodwork but am I the only one who thought the solstice series looked like bowling balls? And then, could you also not get bowling balls out of your head when looking at all the other work?
