Every time I put on the shop apron, I grab the same things and put them in it: remote control for dust collection, 5mm fat mechanical pencil, 0.7 mm mechanical pencil, a 12 foot tape measure and the Woodpeckers 3.5" Delve square. I was surprised I didn't see one of those hanging from your wall. I've dropped that square about 5 or 6 times to the concrete and it still measures true.

I just saw an ad from them today about a new tool. The band saw pattern guide. I have made a lot of adirondack chairs and having that to help cut out the pieces would be a big time saver and would also prevent me from accidently cutting too close to the pencil line and trashing the workpiece. For $200, it looks like it could be a good investment. They have some clever engineers who must stay up late at night thinking this stuff up.

I like using the smaller precision triangle to check inner corners for square. I keep it in my apron pocket and pull it out to check things like drawers and boxes. But the paoloni pocket rule is absolutely the most used for me as well

lol. I heard from a buddy who happened to come across an estate sale and that was what was happening. He took the deceased man's son aside and told him he could quadruple what he was asking for them and they would be gone by the end of the day. He was asking something like $10 for a 24 inch ruler and $15 for the squares of various sizes.

I’m beginning to think that, by comparison, Festool is less expensive! I priced the big squares (1824 and 1218) and my jaw dropped.

interesting, I also bought the triangle set, used one of them once, I don't remember which one, and they have hanged on my wall ever since. I use the 12 inch rule quite a bit. My most used tool is the 3in T Square. It is pure genius. I also have gotten the small Delve Square and it has taken over my shop apron. I am 70 and find that my eyes prefer the stainless steel markings for measurement. They seem sharper than the white on red. Thanks.

Yep, most of them are for collectors, not woodworkers (admittedly I own some that work really well and sue every day, but I was briefly lured by the Wood-crack and spent a bunch of money on stuff that is less than optimal).

I'd give you 10 out of 10 for taste for the materials and design of your wall! Also, really well organized and nice tools :-)

My favorite woodpeckers tool is the posi lock t square. It was a one time tool at the beginning of last year. Really nice design. I wish i got the 32 inch as well or they had metric.

They are well made. As a retired guy and doing woodworking as a hobbie. They are priced out of budget. If I was yiunger would slowly build a nice shop with them. Very nice cover video.

I do not have any plans for it but I do have a lot of videos showing the build process if you scroll back in my Instagram feed a ways.

This is my conclusion about Woodpeckers tools. Pricey...absolutely. Quality and accuracy...without a doubt. Built to last a lifetime...true and especially if you are blessed with many years. Spread that cost over how many ever years you do woodworking and the price seems very very reasonable. I bought the 8 inch Palini pocket rule, 36 inch straight edge, 6 stainless square and the 32 inch T square in that order. Use them often enough to justify the cost and just plain love using fine tools.

I just ordered my 1st woodpecker square the 1812 , your opinion on the rest of woodpecker tools will be helpful when I look at purchasing another item from woodpecker

Is there a specific reason you went with the stainless over the aluminum for the pocket rule?

I agree--the Paolini 6-inch rule lives in my apron and it is my most used Woodpeckers tool. As an aside, I had the opportunity a number of years ago to attend Gregory Paolini's Festool school for a week. I don't know if he still does it, but that was a fantastic experience living in Festool heaven. :)

Hey Jason! Do you wax your MFTs?

I worked at woodpeckers. I probably made half of the tools that you have hanging there at one time or another. Their quality standards are equal to precision machining tools, .0001, yes a half thousand. That's 1/6 the thickness of a human hair. Pretty much unheard of in the woodworking industry.

I bought Woodpecker’s track square. I think... I HOPE that I will find it extremely useful, but like you, there is a high probability that I will only do right angle and straight cuts. I does look bad-ass though!

Don’t get me wrong, it’s awesome. But, I just don’t like how heavy it is

One other tool I've found not so incredibly useful so far are the Clampzille Jr. panel clamps I bought, with the extended bars. I tried using them with 1.5" thick boards (max capacity for these), and the steel tube cauls were bending into arches as I applied pressure, instead of staying even across the panel. Maybe they will work better on thinner stock. For thick stock using Dominos to align seems to have worked the absolute best for me.

@@bentswoodworking I wonder if maybe I had the adjustable ends too far 'out' from them ends of the panel I was clamping, thus creating a fulcrum point at the edge of the panel where the bar contacts it. Now I need to check that out...lol. Didn't think of it til just now.

Jason. I have an 8" pocket rule and while I like it do you find how easy it is to slide somewhat irritating? With the dual screw configuration for the tightening I find it not the easiest to creep up on a measurement that I want. Nice to hear your thoughts on the track saw guide. I'd love to get any guide for my track saw but are priced way out of any of my budget. Appreciate the videos.

I bought a PEC 18 and 24 inch combo square, both blems from Tay Tools. I have a 12 inch Starrett and cannot tell the difference in quality or accuracy. I have a few Woodpeckers tools and find them to be very useful.

Retired a year ago and plan to invest my first Social Security benefits check in shop tools, probably mostly Makita LXT cordless items, TSO track saw accessories and Parf stick kit. Clearing out garage now for workshop.

It’s incredibly useful

My most used is the 6" Paolini as well. Part of the reason I think is because it is one of the few woodpeckers tools that has both metric and imperial markings. I get what you're saying with the track square - heavy as heck. I use mine all the time though, especially for trimming edges on large panels to size or cutting sheet goods.

I have the Woodpeckers track square but I wish I would have purchased the TSO. I rarely cut angles (as you've mentioned) and I find it slips out of square (the indexing pointer will slip out of the V-notch) even when tightened down...and often not enough to notice unless you look for it. I use the Paolini Pocket Rule (6") and the Delve (stainless) square all day, every day. I also use the 851 square quite a bit. I really have grown to hate the red anodized aluminum. I use my tools (no, they don't hang on the wall) and every aluminum tool I have has been scratched or dented such that I've had to sand off mushroomed corners, etc. And no, I don't feel like I abuse my tools, but that aluminum is so soft it dents just from looking at it, and the thickness makes it more difficult than it should be to avoid parallax. I think that's why the Delve square and Pocket Rule come out more often. Woodpeckers needs to get on the stainless bandwagon. I purchased the set of edge rules. Waste of money, never use them.

6” paolini pocket rule

I love the looks of your woodpecker tools that I will never be done dumb enough to pay the outrageous prices they want for them when I can do the exact same thing with a cheaper tool and save a buttload of money

Another great looking, but very expensive tool brand is Blue Spruce, made to order hand tools with your choice of wood species for the handles, colors for ferrules and frame members, etc. Expensive? Yes, Woodpeckers bought the company. Watch Paul Sellers sometime if you haven't already. He builds beautiful furniture with no table saw, no planer, no jointer, no drill press, no router, no need for dust collection or hearing protection. He does have a bandsaw and a cordless drill. He certainly doesn't have any Woodpeckers tools. I think sometimes we take more pride in our tools than in what we build.

Did you purchase your Woodpecker tools or were they gifted by WP?

The corner blocks would be so much better if there was a bolt hole through the side ( similar to the clamping squares ) to mount them for repeated clamping.

I’m sure woodpeckers makes some phenomenal tools, but so do a lot of people and I don’t know if I could justify the price of them..but I can see why everyone displays them when they get them I’d show them off too.

I have almost every Woodpeckers tool ever made. Maybe a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. They are made right here in Ohio by American workers. If you have any issues, they are very easy to deal with and take care of any problems. Try staying up until 3am to get an answer from a Chinese company through an interpreter. As far as the track square guide, I use mine with my Festool track saw and wouldn't be without it.

Wonder what is everything that is in that apron!

Ever watched a Bob Van Dyke woodworking video? I'm guessing most of you have, they're numerous. In his router three-part class, he talks about how he got away from commercially made router table fences. He uses a piece of cherry now for a fence, clamped on with F-clamps, and a hammer to adjust it. He's a world-class woodworker, teacher and furniture school owner. The Woodpeckers tools are great-looking, many of their design ideas are innovative. You can get by so much cheaper than Woodpeckers and still build fabulous furniture.

I noticed you did not show to many of the Woodpecker jigs. I have bought a number of them, use them and then quickly put them back under lock and key. Most uses of them can be done with cheaper tools or home made jigs, but I am a sucker for shiny well made tools. I see almost no videos on woodworker using them, so it looks as if this would be a good opportunity for video makers to show detailed full use of them. Takes a small fortune to buy them though.

Enjoyed your review. However, you omitted your MOST used Woodpecker tool. The pencil. It’s a marking tool, push stick, many other uses we haven’t thought of. Yeah, it’s made by Autopoint, but it says Woodpecker. As an old fashioned accountant, I love my 9mm Autpoints.

I rarely use it. I prefer my .5mm pencil for most marking.

I bought the 9mm pencil from Woodpeckers and it only took 3 months to get.

Which tools one uses most or least often depends upon what kind of carpentry one does.

Paolini Pocket Rules may be the best tool they've made.

Question: I do not mean to pry into your finances so take this as someone who is trying to start a side hustle for himself. In your shop tour video with Bates you said you purchased the tools in your shop with the profits from your wood working jobs. If I understand you correctly, you are in the Army (SNCO or Officer?) so I know what that pay scale looks like. The tools in your current shop are some of the highest end products available on the planet. What do you make and how often are you making them to generate such profits? So far what I am building is for my use or for my immediate family. I am a public high school teacher so I do not have youtube star status fantasies. I enjoy building and got into about four years ago when my wife began getting bids for a 17 foot long built in for our living room. I thought "I can do that" and got educated via youtube....and by golly I built it and it looks nice (thumps own chest). Enough so I have people asking my wife If I would possibly consider a build for them. Bids in our area for custom work are crazy high. The bid wifey got for the built in was $19,000 dollars. I spent about 4 grand on new tools and another 1,300 on materials doing it myself. Anyways, that is probably more about me than you needed to know, just wanted to give some context to my question so as not to come across as simply being nosey, just trying to draw on your experience. Thanks and thanks for doing these videos. I used yours in my education process.

Well this isn’t really the platform to discuss my financial situation. What I will tell you is that the entire reason I started building for clients when I was doing client work was to build something and take the profits and put it back into my shop. Literally every dollar I made when back into tools. This happened over time and led to my current shop. Now, I do this for social media purposes only. I had a lot of jobs that I did, but it was over time that I built up the shop.

What did you build most often that you could 1) turn out in a timely manner and 2) was profitable enough to justify the effort? I know your channel and whatever social media platform you use figure into that profit equation. Shop Nation disclosed what he made last year (not suggesting anyone needs to do that) so I know the amount that can be reinvested into the shop just from that income is rather substantial.

So the projects that were always most profitable for me were always cabinet related projects. Next to that would have probably been tables. Now my income is completely different as I don’t do any sort of client work. In the social media side, it is about diversity and finding multiple ways to generate income from the same project. Both client work and a social media based business has its pros and cons. Whichever sounds interesting to you, it’s worth the effort if it is something you enjoy doing.

I do feel the same about many of the tools for what they are.

This is one of the brand I found obscenely over priced of a piece of aluminum which the most abundant metal on the planet. I thought kreg was bad.

Why would anyone want you to have you send them the tools you don't use, I would want the ones that do get used. I would love to see something what the heck you would use the precision square on.

I admire woodpeckers for their marketing prowess and ability to have created a cult like following. Their tools I'm sure are of high quality, but there are plenty of less expensive options out there that will get the job done. So I'll pass.

They managed to market their limited tools as a literal limited run banner. OneTime tools or whatever and it’s a constant rotation of stuff you gotta buy or miss out forever. A little bit evil but holy shit, they’re good at it.

When I was an Automotive Tech, I transitioned from Craftsman to Snap-on. That cost a fortune. When I win the lottery, I'll buy some Woodpeckers tools.

Right up there with Lie Neilson and Snap-On, over priced

I honestly think Lie-Neilson’s markup is very low. Mostly based on material cost and machining time. Stanley planes where expensive in their time too. Woodpecker stuff seems like it’s on another planet though =p

Don’t waste your money on woodpecker tools when you can buy precious machinist tools for a fraction of the price and they’re made of steel not aluminum that gets beat up over time. The woodpecker tools are nice but I really feel that they’re raping people and they know it.

Surreptitious advertising, surreptitious advertising and nothing more than surreptitious advertising! But there are much better tools out there, but they don't pay you as much if you call them the best in the KZread channel as unique. You honestly deserve the thumbs down !!
