Woodlawn Residential Commons (Room) Tour!

Thought everyone would love to see the inside of Woodlawn considering no one, except for the residents, is allowed to be inside.
Hopefully, this will be one video of many, so feel free to drop some questions down below. I did leave out a bit of the dorm such as common areas because most of it is closed because of COVID. Otherwise, feel free to follow/DM on Instagram (@ree.s.e) with questions. I'd be super excited to tackle any question you throw at me.
Disclaimer: The College is not paying me to do this. These are just my personal opinions.
Thanks! :)

I just got assigned a Woodlawn single, and it looks great! Thanks for posting this video. I wanted to ask - are the dressers under the bed and the shelves at the foot of the bed included with the room, or did you buy them separately?

  • @ReeseKlemm

They are all included!! 😙 Obviously you only get one of each, but yeah: Bed, dresser, armoire, desk, chair, mini bookshelf, trash can

Does Woodlawn have a free communal kitchen or do you have to rent/buy kitchen equipment?

Hi! Great video. Did you use a mattress bridge between the two twin xl mattresses or did you use a king mattress topper? Dis you use a Queen or king comforter? Thanks! Go Maroons!

I did in fact use a 3” memory foam topper, no bridge. I also went with the king comforter- I don’t know if they’re doing very many dingles this year, but if you were lucky enough to not get a roommate immediately, I’m definitely jealous.

Yall U Chicago students making me break the word limit on the why U Chicago essay. How different is the house system compared to before now?

The university has sort-of given up on this idea, but we now have "sister houses." This means that every house in Woodlawn is funnel from six or so other houses. As an example, theoretically, because I was in Thompson House last year, the only Woodlawn house that I could move into was Han. Otherwise, houses are pretty much the exact same this year.

They do! A turning handle-thing lets the bottom swing open maybe 8 inches. There’s also a screen so bugs don’t come in. Otherwise, the AC is pretty decent.

How many floors are in Woodlawn? Also, can student at UChicago eat at different dining halls or only those specific to the assigned dorm?

I believe the west side has 16 and the east side has something like 8 or 9. And yes, you can eat wherever you want (usually whatever is closest, so, in my case, Woodlawn Dining)

@@ReeseKlemm thank you! I thought you might be only tied to the dining at Woodlawn since you live at Woodlawn. So you can get scooped ice cream from Cathy dining if you really like even if you live at Woodlawn, right?

I just looked it up online at Bedloft (where people rent out of) - it said that for one semester (... so the rest of the year?) it's $169 for both. I guess you could expect it's a bit more for the whole year.

@@ReeseKlemm I just read that we can only use a Micro-Fridge and can't have both? Do you know anything about that? I was just placed into Yovovitch House in Woodlawn and am going to start shopping soon.
