I just completed assembling the Hm126 Woodlander XL. So much work! But, I'm learning a lot watching your videos getting ready for my first cuts. Thanks for these.

Good morning, and Congrats on the assembly. In the shipping container of 950 pounds 75 pounds of the weight has to be Hardware LOL and it doe's take some time to tighten that many nuts and bolts but it is worth it. Good video, I have the HM 126, 9hp, tip on adding engine oil, there are two plugs one each side of the block, the one on the left side is for oil level filling indicator, and the one on the right side is for checking level with dip stick, the one the left side is a bit lower and with the plug out once the oil comes out of it the oil level is correct. Kohler site has all the info on how to add oil.

Anyone who plays guitar must be a decent fellow. Sawing with Sandy, a canadian guy got this same saw in 17 which is still a great saw, just recently upgraded to the trailer mount and gave himself the luxury of a key start. He has no problem pulling the start rope but his wood is all very small trees, as in four inch tops small. It was planted trees that were planted so close together that it just grew tall and straight but small diameter. He does find a occasional bigger tree that will render a few boards... just works with what he has... he is all about talking and telling about ideas he comes up with for milling. On the idea of leveling logs for getting the most from it... raising one end or the other so its not so much waste on that first cut... I built my own sawmill and have owned or ran one for over fifty years.... I use the screw jack you find under every hood of any pickup from the seventies and including my ninety five dually.. it didn't miss that jack at all as it weighs a lot more than it should be used with a screw jack. I have a cordless drill and set it on slow turn... have a bit that fits the jack an just mounted it permanently so its clearing the saw blade easily..and can level anything set on the saw deck. It never fails an is always easy to raise or adjust my height of a log. I make it a point to always put the small end at the head of the saw deck an find its easier to know where the pith is, and get set. I have small timber here in central alaska... a larger spruce only runs thirty inches.. I can saw up to fifty two inches which works well with the cottonwood trees we have. Every time that you slow way down or stop, that blade will leave awful marks on the lumber you are making. Your going to get comfortable pushing it through and not fear something going all to heck. After a couple of blades do break for what ever reason, mostly dull blades a guy is lazy in changing or a piece of metal, bullets an some rocks can break a blade... but most the time it does just cut through an peel a tooth out or even more leaving the blade to dive up and down. Its just a time thing that you work through

Good evening and Thank You. I watch Sandy and enjoy his videos his new saw and the trailer looks great. I have a small hydraulic jack I keep at the head of the saw in case the log gets a little heavy, but your scissor jack sounds perfect for the toe board. I have had a great time turning round trees in to square lumber not quite as much fun as the guitar LoL but a great hobby none the less. Be careful way up north and Thanks for Watching

I purchased mine a couple months ago, it's has done an awesome job so far I was checking to see how thin I could get some maple and at less than an 1/8" I am very impressed. I did have an issue with my safety stop for the log stop, it kept dropping down and we became a statistic on catching one of the stops. Fortunately it's only a two hour drive to Portland to get new blades. Have fun and be safe!

Great video, enjoyed watching it. Wish everybody would approach things so carefully and thoughtfully. Joe, you can turn the part which has the pull start, 3 screws only, then you don't have to walk over every time to start the engine. It will also ensure you never break that red lever (happens to people sometimes)...

SHould have the doors closed while engine is running for obvious reasons.

If your going to be doing alot of milling which looks like your going to, a tractor with front loader would sure be handy 😉

Engine manual says gas must be at least 87 octane. Higher octane won't provide more power as higher octane allows for a higher compression without premature compustion of the gas. Since the engine isn't designed to need higher octane, it won't provide higher output.

Certainly beats the chainsaw mill doesn’t it. I cut only one cant with my Alaska mill when I ordered my hm126. Have you had any clutch issues? I can not keep the clutch bolt tight on my mill. I’d like to apply a bit of Loctite but if it ever needs replaced I don’t want that to deal with when removing it.

Loctite comes with different "permanence". I think if you use blue, it is semi-permanent, whereas red is meant to be more permanent.

Try oiling the Teflon collars top and bottom on each side of the saw head. I hope this helps and Thanks for Watching

Daddy Joe do you know why it is called a Cant? Once you have cut off all gore slabs you can’t call it a log anymore!!!

I just received my 126, it is together now, ready to make my 1st cut..... my saw says 2.5 to 3 turns after snug, instead of giving torque measurements, for the blade

Where do you get 93 octane gas at anymore? Husquavarna has a 50:1 mix that is 95 octane. Would that Kohler balk at that mix?

Hello, most gas stations that sell {premium fuel} should have an octane rating between 90-94 and the Kohler engine has a minimum requirement of 87 octane. The premium fuel works better for me. Thanks for Watching

Actually Kohlers user manual says it is okay to use regular gas, I think with 10% of ethanol max. I never used premium in my mill, because vendor guarantees that regular is okay. But premium might be good for prolonged storage, if you don't want to drain the carb (which is a very simple procedure). Here is what owner manual says: Fuel must meet these requirements: ● Clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline. ● Octane rating of 87 (R+M)/2 or higher. ● Research Octane Number (RON) 90 octane minimum. ● Gasoline up to 10% ethyl alcohol, 90% unleaded is acceptable. ● Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) and unleaded gasoline blend (max 15% MTBE by volume) are approved. ● Do not add oil to gasoline. ● Do not overfill fuel tank. ● Do not use gasoline older than 30 days.

Use straight gas, not (oil) mix. Reg gas is just fine, a few drops of gas stabilizer will preserve gas up to 3 months or better, depending on climate

There is no way they suggest premium fuel for that or any stock small engine what they do recommend is ethanol free fuel these engines don't have high enough compression to require high octane fuel and you don't get any improved performance from it the higher octane is to prevent predetonation in high compression engines
