Nice video, I'm a 65 y/o woman and I have had both a PelPro 130 pellet stove as well as a Jotul wood stove in my home. I got the Jotul first, then ended up working out of town five days a week. I needed something that was a bit safer, and that I could leave for a bit, and not worry, hence the pellet stove. I installed the pellet stack myself- no problem. My pellet stove has been goin like gangbusters for 4 years now, no problem. My Jotul, amazing. Both are wonderful. I really got a kick out of your description of the dust :) not too bad. Really made me laugh! Cost is just about the same, it is just a matter of what sort of work do you want to put into them. Now, I am moving this Spring, and with the cost to replace them both, forget it- they are both coming with me. My Jotul is now twice the price-and the new regulations have made them a bit more costly and a my model (Castine) has been discontinued and replace with a more regulated model-AGH. As for the 40 lb bags, well, if you don't use the muscle, you loose the muscle! Thank you for a great video. I really enjoyed watching you compare them both.

Very good detailed, and down to earth honest opinion and explanation! Getting ready to try out my pellet stove I've owned for almost a year now that I bought before I moved to the country. Have had many wood stoves when I was younger and growing up. Still have a wood stove in a concrete and metal large out building. I use to work with my grandpa that use to sell firewood up in to his mid 70's and split it all by hand with a 8 lb maul.

I have had a conventional air tight wood stove, a modern epa certified wood stove and a pellet stove( on my second pellet stove actually. Pellet stove all day and night with no regrets. Less work , no going on ladders to clean chimneys, no increased insurance cost, and nearly zero risk of a chimney fire with a properly installed venting system.

He's wrong. There is no comparison. The pellet stove is far more energy efficient. At least twenty percent more efficient. It also has a fan to distribute the heat. It lights off automatically. It burns far more complete and so your ash is much finer and doesn't need to be cleaned up as often. Because it burns the fuel more thoroughly there is no risk of a chimney fire. Pellet stoves can be ducted sideways directly out the sidewall of the house. There is no manual light off of a pellet stove as there is with a woodstove. About the only disadvantages the woodstove does not need electric. And then dealing with all of the wood and prepping, it takes a lot of time in effort. To save what a couple a hundred dollars? And then there of course is the duration of the burn. Again, no comparison a pellets that can be loaded up depending on the size of the hopper up to 120 lbs Of pellet fuel on some models. He gave a very unfair, Inaccurate, And confusing comparison. And it is clear that he is not a very technically adept person and so he could not explain the difference is very well. There is no comparison whatsoever. The pellet stove is the way to go.
