In this days it is not available a lot of options of Wood Burning Stove. A lot of FAKE "fire heathers" . In the past was very nice when You hear a fire burning with a not loud fire cracking sound. Fire inside the house was very inspiring and calming.

Nice setup you have there. One of the best things I like about my wood burner is that I don't need to split the wood. Just cut it to size where you can still pick it up and you're done. I live in the jungle at the top of a mountain in Tennessee, so I get all my wood for free. My tractor has a grapple and I use it to get the trees from the jungle and my neighbors' lots. My wife and I really love the wood furnace heated water heater. Nothing like getting a free hot shower.

Thanks for informative video on the wood boiler. Goal is to have one for next winter. LP bill is getting old. Making mortgage payment on our 240 acre dairy farm deciding why not use the woods we are paying on to heat for us going forward.

Pretty cool system :) In Germany we got a wood chip boiler. It turns on and off by himself. You only have to put the woodchips with a loader in the silo. Better for the back ;) And if no one is at home it still works. Maybe you have to put some antifreeze in your watersystem so it can't freeze.

We heat our house in Calgary to 68° F. We turn it down at night to 66° F. Our utility company says that we are not energy efficient compared to the "average" home in our area. Some friends keep their homes at 74° F. We use natural gas. Our furnace is a mid range efficient furnace. It was a new furnace in 2008. The furnace people told us how much we would save. That was a salesman talking. He told us how we would even save electricity because of the DC motor. I have kept the utility bills since our house was new. You cannot see any difference since the furnace was changed. Some fast talking sales people say that we need to change our windows so we can get the full advantage of changing the furnace. . . . pardon me but, the farmer just hauled another load away. . . . and it wasn't wood. Thank you for sharing your heating system with us. 😊

I agree. I spend $400-500 on electric and some gas to run a boiler. We keep it at 68 and we have some rooms shut off with no heat. and plastic on windows. my home is big like yours. If i did this it would be more work but save money. At least you dont have to split it and that saves you more time and money! You son is going to be a great helper!

My folks and I used to heat with wood years ago. We had stoves in our houses but after awhile when you get older it fades out. My dad and I used to start cutting firewood Labor Day weekend up by White River. A pickup truck full every weekend till November 15th then it was deer hunting time. We had 2 chain saws and a 4 ton gasoline powered wood splitter. It was work, but we loved doing it because we were in the woods where we deer hunt. It's quite evident that you need that outdoor wood furnace. I know about propane, it's ungodly expensive. I had a house that used it and I hated it. Now I'm back with natural gas, thank you Lord. Hang in there Kip, God Bless everyone.

I like heating with wood. Like you said it's a good workout. My brother has lived in northern Minnesota 40 years and is on his 3rd wood boiler like yours. What I like about them is it keeps all the mess from the wood and the inherit dangers and health affects from burning wood out of the house.

It was a major expense back then. Can't imagine what it would be nowadays. We were paying more than $1600 a year way back then. Take care, God bless and hope your New Year is going well. I have a neighbor with a similar system ,he has his in a heated leanto next to his shop, he says if its about 10 or above the heat coming off the outside of the burner pretty much heats the shop, and he also heats two houses with it.His burner is on cement, and for the big pieces of wood he made a dolly with forks and some kind of wench that he can pick them up and put them right in the door of the burner,he just has to push it off, I know those units are insulated, but sometime point an inferred gun on the outside of the burner to see the heat loss

Love my outdoor wood boiler… the only thing I would say is if you decide to buy another one get a gasification boiler they reburn the smoke and get twice as much heat from less wood yet, they don’t smoke at all. It’s looks like blast furnaces in the bottom with insanely high temps of 2,000° to incinerator the wood. Lol

It would be worth either building a hoist, or making room to get your skidder in there with a bucket for loading those big pieces. One slipped disk or blown knee will more than offset your savings for years to come. PEX in the floor would be great. It's not that expensive or hard to install if you're building new. The thermal mass of the concrete can't be beat. Recovery time after opening an overhead door seems almost instantaneous. I do a similar process for my indoor add on wood furnace. Only difference is that I cut all of my own. I use a 13k winch and an arch to get the logs on my equipment trailer, drag them off with my tractor (loader), then stack the logs on RR ties until I want to burn it. Bring them up to the house with the loader cut and split them and drop them into the basement ready to burn.

Why don't you use a 2 stage thermostat ? Run that fan off the first stage then set the difference of temp you want for the second stage to fire the gas.

Good thinking with the wood stove. Propane would cost you a fortune!

Hey Kip just curious what size propane tank you have there? I’m getting my boiler installed now and don’t want to pay rental on the 1,000 tank after this year if it isn’t necessary. I will still use some propane for hot water heater, cook stove, and fireplace possibly. Thanks

Why not have glycol run through your lines? Thata what we did in our system and we live in western Canada

We run water down here in the US cause glycol isn’t necessary. The water won’t freeze in 10 to 12 hours. Also the heat exchanger works both ways it can keep the stove water warm if the fire goes out. It also helps we get around 3 to 5 days of below (0 F) nights here where I live as well instead of 30 or 40 days like Canada does.

I’ll be honest that’s not that much wood… we hear a house and a 7,000 square foot shop and that would last bought 2 months. You do realize tree grow back right??? And plus he said it was going to throw out cause it didn’t make grade at the lumber yard anyway.
