    Great video, plenty of info. Given for the beginner smoker or advice person. I use both chips and pellets in my gas and charcoal grills. It depends on what I am smoking and what flavor I am looking for. I think using pellets maybe slightly better, because U have more options of flavors that they come in.

    I just got a pellet grill and will be trying it out. But I will forever be a fan of natural lump charcoal and wood chunks in a off set or a grill. I always go with charcoal and wood chunks in a grill, offset uses some charcoal to start and wood splits to maintain, propane grill gets wood chips in a foil pouch, pellets get wood blend pellets but I have not tried charcoal pellets yet.

    Hi there, and thanks for this video. I am new to the whole smoking thing and have a real basic question, if you could answer it, I would really appreciate it. I have been making sausage for a long time, but would now like to smoke the links, before cooking them. I have a recently acquired WSM and was wondering if I could use it and a pellet tube, to cold smoke my sausages? If so, what would be best to use in the pellet tube, pellets or woodchips? Thanks so much.

    Can you put wood chips in the metal tube and lay the tube right on charcoal? Just like you would make a pouch out of aluminum foil? I’m assuming it would work but haven’t seen anyone on KZread use it that way.

    Can you do a video on which flavors of the pellets burn longer then others?, And can you mix flavors of the pellets? Because I use apple and cherry wood chips to get that sweet and fruity flavor which my family love because I think with those two flavors combined give you enough sweet to where everyone I've cooked for said no bbq sauce needed... So my question is can you mix pellets

    I personally don't soak my wood chips and if I do it won't be more than 30 minutes. I use a blend of cherry , apple , pecan , maple , gum , oak and Hickory. I've been smoking for quite some time over the years and tried the pellets in smoke tube and preferred small wood chips as pellets doesn't burn that well enough it just dies. I use a stainless steel chip box to put my wood chips in. I never used a electric smoker and I think the pellets will work great in them. I got the chargrill bbq gas and charcoal combination just like yours and it's fantastic. I had to change my gas burners as the gas burners cracked from all the use , I converted myne to gas ceramic burners and is heaps better. You keep well.

    I'm trying to avoid shelling out for a pellet grill by using a smoke generator with pellets on my existing gas and coal rigs, so far so good. (Famous outdoor supply brand starts with C 😃 ) Looks like I can get 5-6 hours easy out of a full tray, very consistent burning and I love how little ash they make too!

    Just used a pellet smoker from Pitboss for the first time yesterday… I have a MasterBuilt wood chip smoker and I’ll say you definitely go thru a lot more pounds of Pellets when cooking for 10-12hrs as opposed to Woodchips… and I felt you get far more smoke with the woodchips since they are just smoldering and not actually flaming up… I mean most the time, you only smoke for 3-4 hours on most food, since you can really trap that smoke… and then you can stop smoking and just let the wood chip smoker work like an oven for the remaining several hours…. With the Pitboss I got, it gave a great flavor but all and any smoke just runs right out the top and I feel it doesn’t insulate as well like the MasterBuilt upright smoker I have.. one seals really well while the other doesn’t which let’s all your smoke out

    Which Masterbilt do/ did you have? I use a John Mclemore series and use a cast iron pan as my chip tray, running on natural gas. It does okay, but struggles to get above 265 with 2 rack of St. Louis ribs and a whole chicken. I'm looking at a GMG pellet and your comment is exactly what I need to know- what's the difference between pellet and chip as far as flavor? I assume pellet is easier and more consistent. I did run LavaLock around both my doors but it still leaks like a sieve.

    Yes I have a traeger and I just don’t get the smoke flavor like a master built cabinet smoker. I’m actually thinking of getting the campchef wood wind pro. Been getting a lot of good reviews about being closer to a offset smoker in flavor.

  • @Todd.T
    @Todd.T Жыл бұрын

    My choice in order: 1. My offset running on pure wood. 2. My offset running a charcoal basket with minion plates. Briquette base layer, charcoal layer on top, wood chunks on top. 3. Traeger plus a smoke tube full of wood chips, not pellets. Tube runs out, but the meat won't take any more smoke anyway. 4. Gas BBQ with smoke tube full of wood chips.

    Wood chunks are all natural. We don't really know what all goes inside those wood pellets during the process of making them. Not to mention if the coating over the pellet is toxic or not.
