He hung himself in a closet in a hotel next to honolulu airport....never even made it to the beach.....i stayed at that hotel....very sad...i am thinking he went out there to get better or see the beach etc.... before he killed himself....but killed himself in a crappy hotel

On a cold night as the snow falls this warms the heart and rekindles memories of a wonderful band , here we are in 2021 , anyone else listening and getting that warm soulful glow..

Without a doubt the best live band ever. You will never see a pairing of two guirarists like this again and its not just Stuart and Bruce but Mark and Tony also. Take any one of them away and youve lost the unique sound and energy created here. Thank God for youtube archives

I saw them at the NEC in around '87 - and you are absolutely right!! I had also seen Dire Straits (who I absolutely loved & still do) and many, many other truly great bands at the very same venue - BUT NO-ONE ever generated an atmosphere anything like as brilliant as these boys. I have never before felt a super-venue SHAKE in the way that it did that night! I saw them twice more in Glasgow over the years - and for me they will always be THE best live band ever.

Sorry but Bruce is pretty lame on guitar and couldn't sing backup properly. It's a shame Stuart never paired up with someone like Marshall Crenshaw to write music, sing and play guitar. They would have been awesome together.

Stuart Adamson was the most underrated songwriter of his generation - you can't count how many 'indie' bands from the late 2000s on emulate both his voice and chord progressions - the first 3 Big Country records are absolute masterpieces.

They are and they really caught lightning again with Buffalo Skinners through Damascus, people should really spend time with them. It's a shame the Grunge thing drowned out so much good music, BC were definitely victims of that shift and they were churning out some of their very best stuff.

Pure energy and soul Better than all punk/heavy metal/electronic etc.

One can see Tony Butler loved playing in this band .

I’ve seen a few bands, some massive bands, some local bands....all live. Nobody, nobody come close to this line up, live. Nobody

Only really appreciate them now years later. What a live band they must have been. This is one of the best things I ever saw on KZread. Two great guitar players and a phenomenal rhythm section. Truly inspiring.

Yep, saw each tour through the 80's and it was difficult to watch them fade. The music was there but they were forced to alter their sound some. Got it back with Skinners and went out strong. They were amazing, came out of nowhere. People kept talking about "bagpipe" sound and overlooking the fact that you had collectively, 4 of the most talented musicians to come out of that generation.

The 1st minute of this video is why i love Stuart. Great guitar playing and that dance!

He sang songs about love and loss and hope and redemption over some of the most beautiful melodies ever written. Hiss loss is palpable. He and his music will never be forgotten

This is probably the best live performance by a band ever! I would love to have been there. Being Scottish I know how electric the Barrolwands can be. Big Country took it to hyperspace with this one!

The reason why so many don't know Big country because the music industry let this band down. This includes radio stations as well.

I was at this concert, brings back so many memories of the best live band ever, remember leaving thinking what the f... just happened there amazing night

Happiness = leather pants, loud guitars and Stuart with a goatee! I would give anything to have a time capsule back to this gig in 1993. Totally underrated band, especially in a live setting! RIP Stuart, you are missed!! X

I think we all under appreciate Bruce. When I first heard Wonderland I was floored and Bruce's guitar was a big part of that.

I felt depressed, and tired as consecuense..Now I have energy!... The power of a good music...This band really can get me up!

Total joy. A fabulous song, performed by geniuses of their time, who were never recognised for the talents, song writing poignancy (and yet joy) and brilliant live performances that those of us who knew them saw. And loved. The utter sadness of Stuart's loss haunts us all in a way I find impossible to reconcile two decades on, but we rejoice in the complete mesmerising magic, gifts, lyrics and pleasure he brought to the world. We love you, big man.

This version I want played at my funeral.

4 artists at work. Excellent rhythm section (10/10) to the drum tech who sorted that snare, two of the ‘best of their time’ guitarists, and not to mention the lyrical genius of Mr Adamson. A lot would say that all BC songs sounded the same, but that’s a compliment because they never did a shit one!

Out of all the songs they did, I think Wonderland has always been close to my heart. Listening to this live version was even more compelling and added chills in the middle. I was lucky enough to see them live in 1994 I think, free gig in Wollaton Park in Nottingham. RIP Stuart.

Never ever got the right recognition of a 80’s genius

One of the few occasions, in my opinion, when the live version is better than the one cut in the studio.

What a night, I was there with Davie Smith and Pete Docherty, we caught the train at Dumbarton Central an embarked on one of the best nights of my life. That's me jumping about at 0.02 ,,, in amongst all the other nutters. Memories last a lifetime ... thanks Isabelle. x

That thought breaks my heart. It is so contrary to the admiration for this immense fantastic band and to the celebration of their music & talent. Music that helped so many escape their own pain or take so much pleasure and hope out of it. Stuart will be in my heart forever.

Some people, when they leave the world, leave such a vacuum in the universe it can only be filled by the sadness of their loss that lasts forever. I will never stop missing you, it still hurts.

It is 2020 and I fell in love with Big Country and their only US hit, "In a Big Country" when it came out in the 80s. I just found out the lead singer died a long time ago. I loved his voice. I've not been to Scotland, but I've been to Ireland 7 times. I love Irish and Scottish music both Traditional and Punk. I saw Shane MacGowan after he left the Pogues and formed the Popes. I went to their show in San Francisco, and had the most awesome time.

Never been to the Barrowland! !! Legendary by all accounts! !!!

I give this man 💯 he felt the winter more than most I’d of saved him if given the chance Talented man yet no one see his pain till it was to late Makes me think of my dad in many ways Look after those who don’t ask for help

This is the real thing. No other band created guitar riffs like these, and what a fantastic collaboration between the two axemen! But in the end it's all about passion and energy, and this song is 100% energy for sure. They were the best, no doubt.

Agree with you - but I’d also argue that Tony and Mark added yet more to what the guitarists did and that Stuart’s voice soars over the lot. This bass player and this drummer are both noteworthy players - way better than the average of 80s musicians in popular bands. Top band all ‘round - massively underrated.

Saw many bands live, Queen twice, Thin Lizzy 4 times, Rush,Blizzard of Oz plus many more but hand on heart, the 2 Big Country gigs at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, were the best live performances I have ever seen. Legends!

Buffalo Skinners tour of 93. Great performance from a truly great band. Saw them on this tour at Cambridge Corn Exchange and again in 94. You should've been there.

Absolutely brilliant! "The Winds of quiet Change .... " Great lyrics and full of Scottish pride!! :)

Great audio quality - so many BC clips have either horribly fuzzy or very muted sound, - BUT this is great. Thank you! I have probably watched over 300 different bands during the last 50 years - but NO-ONE created a better live atmosphere than Big Country in their prime !!

God Bless you Stuart, I can't hear your voice and not be off to find wonder outdoors! Thank you Big Country for giving me the kick to be a happy and healthier person!

Crazy. I do not know why I cry, everytime I hear this song. I guess it is so nostalgic - tied into my college days. I am a man. But some little things, can cause a big man to cry. This is crazy.

Brings a lump to my throat and a tear to my eyes watching these videos, I am a copper and have seen some sights over the years but well up when I watch the group, had the pleasure of seeing them live twice I have seen many bands over the years and these were honestly the best band I have ever seen live !!!! Gareth E comment sums it up I am not Scottish - English for my sins but listening to them I feel a kin to the Scots one day I will make the pilgrimage up North to were they started and pay my respects - Stuart sadly missed but your musical genius lives on RIP Big Man.

Although they are probably known by most as a 'Scottish' band I think they were a people's band. Personally I don't think their songs get as much recognition as they deserve. They are my favorite band and most probably always will be. If you do come up to Scotland I hope you will see the best of it.

Well put, Stuart was, so cool. Big Country made sure the promoters refunded us al £1 of a £5:50 ticket @ Fleetwood Marine Hall gig. Fleetwood was and still is a poor fishing town. The small gig date was added last minuet on top of a sold out tour, they played , the best gig I have ever seen.

Saw them at the Barrowlands many many times. The Big Country fans at the Barrowlands always welcomed Stuart and the boys. Always a brilliant night in there. Miss the big man so much. He was a troubled soul. Such a waste of a wonderful man. Thankfully, with You Tube, his music was always be with us. As Stuart wrote, "some days will stay a thousand years, some pass like the flash of a spark, who knows where all our days go" RIP Stuart.
