I'm Arabic and here we use pure henna and it's definitely changed your hair color for some people it makes it more red and for some black and for some others more brown, but we don't use it to dye our hair, but to like treat it and take care of it and something like that and it's wonderful and amazing and for the smell we mix some perfume with it, and about how we make it exactly we mix henna with some oil (any oil you prefer) and some perfume (Sorry for my bad English)

I'm Arab and in my family we never mixed perfume with our Henna. I think perfume is bad for your hair? Since Most Arabs have black or dark brown hair, the propose of using henna is not to dye it, as you said, we use it to nourish, strengthen and moisturize our hair.

This is real henna powder, mixed with some other stuff and pressed, so it’s essentially a hair treatment as well. Like they said at the end, it leaves your hair feeling amazing and sooo shiny. I’ve used Lush’s Rouge color for about 6 years now, my hair is naturally a dark blonde/very light golden brown, and it ends up amazingly natural-looking red every time! A lot of people think my hair is naturally red until I tell them otherwise.

I’m literally wearing the dye right now. It makes ur hair so good. It’s so healthy for your hair. In my country it’s available in powder form. I put a little bit of water the day before, and on the day I put yogurt, an egg white and lemon and make it a paste. I put it in my hair and wait for one or two hrs and then wash it with shampoo.

I love your video. Very fun...and funny! I've been using Henna for years. I use the Rainbow Henna product and it's more green than brown and I use the dark brown hair color. I also rinse in the kitchen sink with a sprayer because it's way easier and less messy. It's also easier to rinse out with the use of a good quantity of conditioner after the initial rinse. Like anything, it took practice. I am so glad I don't have to use strong chemicals anymore. No more strong chemicals getting absorbed into my system. I also feel good that this is much better for the environment.

For those of you who are new to henna and are interested in trying it out for the first time, please wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo a few hours before applying the henna paste. Generally, 4 hours is the ideal time you’ll have to let the henna sit to get great results. Always use loads of cheap conditioner to get all the henna out of your hair and scalp. Ensure you don’t leave any behind because in a lot of cases that leads to some serious scalp itching. Happy hennaing!

Omg I dye my hair with henna all the time so I can definitely relate to the struggle of washing it out. I usually get it in the form of powder though and add water to it. I also think that lighter henna works better because I have naturally brown hair, not really dark brown but not light either. And it gives me much more of a red affect than it gave them.

Just a warning to everyone! If you ever color your hair with henna, see a professional if you want to go lighter. Unfortunately, peroxide and ammonia do not mix to well with henna. As a stylist, if had to do many test strands and tell people we couldn't make their hair lighter because the chemicals were reacting badly. Be safe everyone!

As someone with henna experience - do not freak out if you think your hair is dry and frizzy after you wash it out first; you just didn't wash it all out because it is very difficult to do so. Trust me - the next time you shampoo and condition your hair, the colour will be rich and amazing, the shine will be visable from space, and it will be super- soft. Once you've learned how to properly henna, you will never go back to chemical dyes. Best thing about it? You will also never have roots again, due to the affordability and totally non-harmful benefits of henna; you could literally dye your hair every two weeks, and the only side effect will be that it's thicker and shinier. Also, you can use it on your eyebrows too. True story.

I personally love henna dye, and this video is spot on. It honestly takes some time, looks like poo smeared in your hair, makes a bit of a muddy mess in the tub, and tends to lean towards red no matter what shade you get, but it looks totally natural and it conditions too. It works very well with my sensitive skin and my allergies. Henna is a temporary dye so it will fade gradually and not give you glaring roots, BUT... It will fade over time. I'd say a treatment lasts about a month or so before it starts to obviously fade. I haven't tried tried lush brand henna dye yet, but I'm curious to see how it differs from colora brand (which is far more affordable). For the record, I'm a white woman and have naturally dark brown hair with red highlights, and I'm beginning to grey (I'm in my mid 30s). I use henna dye for grey coverage and to bring my natural highlights more forward. I just used it this week for my wedding day, and was very happy with the results. I support environmentally friendly products for ethical reasons, and also have a lot of sensitivities and allergies so i lean towards natural products for those reasons as well.

You cant put normal colour/dye/bleach on your hair till the henna is grown out.Your hair will seriously have a chem reaction with results like burning the hair (sometimes off). And/or having the end crisp off.

Hi ladylike, when a was much younger i did dyed my hair always with henna and I made my Mom go crazy. We had different coloring shades. Very dark red, a orange red and one without colouring. What ever you mixed it with it had a differend outcome. I did always mixed red wine and an egg with the henna, so it had a nice red shine in my hair. You need to put more conditioner in the hair to keep it healthy and to take care of the dry ends. I did love it, but now with the grey in my hair it would look orange and this not my colour 😂

Henna is fun, but if you ever want to actually dye your hair later on it's a nightmare. Henna does NOT mix well with traditional dyes and makes them do totally unexpected things. It'll make it patchy, or a different color than it should be. Plus even when the henna color is gone it still coats the hair, so the only way to guarantee results with traditional dyes is to cut off any hair that has had henna.

older arab women dye their hair with henna since the beginning of time way before chemical dyes were introduced... it's very healthy and keeps you young without a shitload of chemicals! i just hate the smell of it (i know i'm a sad excuse of an arab XD)

This is NOT how you do henna !!!!!!!!! Henna is heat sensitive..so when you heat it like that you have pretty much killed its beneficial coloring properties. If they had made henna paste the real way (dry henna powder +essential oils+ water/lemon juice), they would have to wait a few hours for the dye to release and then apply it. I wish buzzfeed did their research beforehand on this topic. As a henna artist, this pisses me off because this does NOT represent henna AT ALL! The title should be woman trying Lush Products version of henna...because the legit way to use henna is not like this.

Agreed, my mom dyes her hair with henna sisnce forever and the process you said is how she does it and it always ends up gorgeous. Although I must say that is might be a mistake from the manufacturer, in the package it could be stated that the pot and hot water is how it should be done.

I am a natural red head and I henna my hair every 5 or so months. It doesn’t change my color. It just brightens and strengthens. Also for all those fellow red heads out there that get that little green patch of hair at the bottom of ur scalp (I know you do. We all do.) it fixes that right up. I love hennaing my hair. It just makes it look shiny and great.

  • @forevermrsanime

Henna really only works on gray/grey hair. It makes it go red or orange depending on how good it is and how long you leave it on for.
