I will personally send Aishwarya a box from my boring small town but with amazing gifts that really show the differences in our cultures! I don't know. I like in Mumbai, and I'd know where to get that stuff pretty easily. Chantel's gifts were really personal and thoughtful! Cultural exchange isn't just like, yay now I can get firangi makeup or whatever, it's about ideas and perspectives and tastes, yes? Even if she could've got say, the sunglasses, over here, she never would've! And most Indians would never!

But at the same time there are different people out there and one person might think you should spend money on gifts while another thinks it's the thought that counts and doesn't like expensive ones. I myself don't like expensive gifts. I put a lot of thought into it, but spending large amounts of money to me does not equal good gifts. You have to buy gifts FOR the person. I think they both did good. If I were to receive spicy stuff, the bag, the face mask (I'm vegan and it's more than likely not), I would not be as thrilled as she was and would not find those things fitting for me. They both clearly did (apart from the sunglasses which seemed scary to her, but she then got to realize that they actually look really good on her and everyone liked them). Edit: whether or not the gifts were good is a different question, but I don't think money needs to be a part of it.

Honestly. I was disappointed just looking at the comparisons of them shopping. While to show Indian culture she went down the actual streets and to nice specialty shops, Chantal just went to the equivalent on Kohls and got everything in what I assume was less than 2 hours and 2 stores. She wasn't thinking about showing the culture of LA, or what someone else would want. Instead Chantel just grabbed what she would have wanted or would have usually gotten. So cheap and flexible day to day stuff that she probably spotted on those random isles at literally any store. Seriously, that challenge was lame too. It was just a cop out to say "I don't know your size and I already got the sunglasses so...."

Well Chantel's box was really sad and DISAPPOINTING!!!!!!!!!!! I feel so sorry for Aishwarya , her box was soo amazing and beautiful at the same time.

Aishwarya is a such a sweet and thoughtful intellectual. She really thought about her gifts and what Chantel could not or would have a hard time finding in America while...I can't really say the same for Chantel.

Aishwarya had excellent taste. I might be rude... But I really wanted to give a piece of my mind to Chantel. So cheap. Her packing, the items.... All looked so cheap. Don't you have a little bit of manners ? Aishwarya was so polite about all those disheartening gifts.

ok so chantel's box was : two small packs of olives , a cheap pair of forever21 glasses , a "challenge", a book and some "pricier" serum and oil . the total must be like ... $30 ? and most of it prolly comes from the serum and oil... aish went all out and found traditionnal pieces , you can see that she cleary put time and effort into her box ... i feel so bad for her . at least she's very good at acting like she likes the gifts aha

Clumsy Sana tbh most Indian people are nice and approachable no matter where they are, if you ask for help from them they will be 200% happy to help. And I’m not even Indian

Really cringed when the first thing Chantel said about the sunglasses was about how it looks great on herself. It made me realise that Chantel's approach to the whole box was to get things that she herself likes instead of thinking too much about what Aishwarya would actually like. Aishwarya approached this challenge from so many perspectives, a traveller, a foreigner with limited access to Indian culture, Indian food, an American, and a fellow modern woman. I actually don't really blame Chantel, different people just think differently sometimes and maaayyybe Chantel really thought that her effort was good and thoughtful enough. But like Chantel, I don't mean any disrespect but your reactions towards what she gave you were really... idk.
