Thank you for mentioning Matrescence! I too read it just before reading Soldier, Sailor and reading the two together was a really eye-opening and moving experience for me and I truly think everybody should read Jones' book! I was gutted that Matrescence didn't make it onto the shortlist but the six chosen seem very relevant and interesting too. Loved watching your reactions as always!

I had watched the disclosure of the shortlist on a different channel already, but witnessing your almost childlike joy at some of the title is just such joy to see. Thank you for your enthusiasm, time and again! I had never been interedted in AI before, but I shall now purchase and read 'Code Dependent'. The last books I read were "Wifedom" and "Soldier Sailor". Both excellent voices.

What a fantastic shortlist!- such fun to watch your reaction! I have just finished reading Young Queens, which I highly recommend, I have rarely read a work of non-fiction that reads so much like a page turner of a novel, absolutely fascinating. I'm two thirds way through Eve which I'm also enjoying, and listening to Wifedom on Audio, which is such a pleasure. A Flat Place or Thunderclap is next on my reading list. I recently finished reading Soldier Sailor, and love your suggestion of pairing that one with Matrescence, which I will pick up soon 🙂

Ah great, I've got a copy of Young Queens so I look forward to reading it as well. Hope you enjoy A Flat Place and Thunderclap.

I’ve read five of these six titles and am delighted with the judges’ selections. Matrescence is out in the US in May and I’m going to read it even though it was not shortlisted because I’ve heard such good things. What an interesting idea to read it alongside Soldier Sailor. Thunderclap was a particular standout for me but I think this is an incredibly strong list.

Great! Hope you enjoy Matrescence when it's available. I did have a couple issues with it but overall really fascinating.

Such a great shortlist. Sad that Intervals wasn’t listed but the judges must have had a hard time whittling it down as there are so many interesting books on the longlist. Loved seeing your reaction, you did very well predicting it!! Psychic Eric as always 😉🔮

So many great sounding books! I'm not a fast reader so I could realistically only get through a couple of them in the near future, but it's so hard to decide which ones. And there's a few that didn't make the shortlist that I'm also interested in. So many books, so little time!

For the first inaugural WPNF prize I’m really disappointed not to see Matrescence make the short list. After great reviews I’m still waiting on this one to read. Four memoirs? is a lot! Will be interesting to see who wins this prize.

Thank you for this, lots to line up to read there. I have just finished My Friends by Hisham Matar, a man so won’t be on this list,I’m thought it was brilliant and I suspect you would enjoy joy it. The only book I’ve read so far this year I feel should make the Booker longlist, feels like a thin year!

So happy to see Thunderclap on the list (the only one on the shortlist I have read.) I loved it! Along with Young Queens and The Dictionary People, which I also enjoyed. I plan on finishing the longlist, probably not before the winner is announced. I was very impressed with all the selections. I always enjoy hearing your take on the books :) ❤️

This was so fun! I’ve so far only read All That She Carried and I’m in the middle of listening to How To Say Babylon (excellent!), but I plan on reading the whole Longlist because the reviews have made each one sound amazing. I made a wild stab in the dark prediction before watching your unboxing and got 4 out of 6 right…but felt bad for all 10 not on the shortlist because I’ve heard such great things. What a strong first year for the nonfiction category. Great reading ahead.

I had to go to your channel first for the news!! I immediately ordered Code Dependent from Blackwells since I've been super intrigued. It doesn't come out in the US until mid-June. How to Say Babylon is a gorgeous audiobook with her accent so I'm pleased that made the list. I'm hoping to get A Flat Place from the library super soon (fingers crossed). Thank you Eric ❤

How fun and a nice surprise. I’ve read All That She Carried and found it very interesting part of history. I plan on eventually getting to Thunderclap and Doppleganger but it’s such a good list

I had the same reaction after reading Thunderclap: I went to the museum (National Art Gallery of Canada) to look at Dutch paintings. Of the other five books, I have read only All That She Carried, which I thought was great. I am disappointed that Eve did not make the short list, but I understand that choices had to be made (though I would have liked to see fewer memoirs in the short list; four is a lot).
