Loved this. Remembered the clothes from 1970s and 1980s. Fashion started to be more youthful in the 60s prior to that you dressed like yr Mum. Loved the trousers in the 70s. Just imagine doing all your gardening and cleaning, walking the dog and everything else in a dress or skirt when nowadays we wear jeans. And gloves! White dress gloves!

Nice video. Liked the 50's the best in this video but there were some good pictures in the 1960's and 1970's section. Best dress in video. The white one at 6.47. The 70's seemed to have a revival of long, flowing dresses which flowed in the 1980's with Laura Ashley dresses,etc.

Thank you for the upload. I was born in the late 1950s and remember by mother's and aunt's wardrobes. This is pretty spot on for that time frame for the main stream American woman. I note it seems some sewing pattern companies (such as McCall and also Butterick) renderings are in this compilation...my mother had a Singer and sewed my clothes in the 1960s...I had many memories of going to the fabric stores and her choosing material, thread, zippers, buttons, rick-a-rack, etc. I also remember the Sears & Roebuck catalogs and using my babysitting money in the early 1970s to purchase clothes from their popluar "Lemon Frog Shop"!!! It does seem fashion for women took a dive after the 1960s. I ended up with a retail career in fashion in the late 70s and I personally feel the lowest point for women's fahsion was 1970-1985 or so. Then it got really interesting again as the 90s approached. However, the styles of the days before the 1970s, in my humble opinion, were the classiest and most beautiful.

Drugs kicked in...that happened hence the fashion until today. The 50's were best!! Love that fashion era. Pure class.

The pattern photo's from the 70's looked like McCall patterns. My mom used to make a lot of my cloths when I was growing up, and she had a lot of those patterns. When I was in Jr High, my friends parents use to get my mom to make cloths for my friends also.

I love the classiness of everything before the 1970s, but I would honestly miss pants and shorts so much.

Bring back the '50s!

When I'm 70+, i wonder if i'll be that old lady wearing a long cardigan, a boyfriend tee, leggings, and white converse... because my grandma's fashion is like the ones in the 1950s with that matching skirt and blouse and a hat... and my grandpa wears a sweater vest, a long sleeve button up, long cargo pants, and those vintage hats.. it nakes me wonder if those are the ezact clothes they wore as teenagers..

I love the way that ladies dressed from the 20s or the 30s up until the year 1990.

Throughout history people have worn very revealing clothes and got up to some very sordid things. So once again the young (as they did in the 60s/70s with the mini) are wearing revealing clothes and shock horror the older generation disapprove. Men will always ogle the young...you need to accept that fact. I just love the clothes of 50/60s and at the moment sexy wiggle dresses are all the rage and I'm stocking up before things change. I wish there would be a montage of fashion from 1981 to now.

I'm not sure if I'll go on to 2010 - depends how easy it is to find enough material - esp mail order catalogue stuff. I get the impression that regular periodicals with updated fashion plates didn't exist until the 1790s and that there was also much more variation from country to country before then so that it may be a bit too difficult or pointless to go back to the 16thC on a year by year basis.

Very interesting. Can't wait for 1981-2009/2010. It should be very interesting to watch the evolution of fashion from the 1790s to today. Ever thought of going earlier than 1795, though? maybe the 1590s?

I think the big fashion news years are 1958, when the fit became more sleek and short anticipating the 1960s, and 1964, when the New Look was finally gone and boxy suits and sheath dresses became the dominant silhouettes.

1980 seems to be the only year in the 80s decade that had better fashion. I would've add 1981 but that was the year when shoulder pads and 80s power dressing began via the tv show Dynasty. I grew up in the 80s and while I love the 80s as a whole but the fashion is the thing I didn't like about the 80s.

I like the 70's the best because I like platform shoes and bell bottom jeans.

I'd love to see one from `80 till the present. How it deteriorates even MORE! lol.

Une catastrophe culturelle!!!! arrivée envahissante des pantalons, très bisard, c'est les hommes qui pour les horribles et très inconfortables pantalons taille basse ont ouvert le bal. Puis les femmes se sont engouffrées dans la brèche, plus c'est laid, mieux c'est..... C'est pratique disent-elles, et passent le temps de la journée à remonter ces infectes guenilles. Elles ressemblent à des cow boys, des mercenaires , et ne réalisent pas leur laideur!!! A présent nouvelle vague catastrophique: les tatouages, scarifications et piercings, merci les USA pour cette belle culture à l'envers...!!! J'en dit pas plus, ma tête est déjà mise à prix pour un autre sujet, ils vont me l'arracher..... Salutations.
