Women in Theatre- Patti LuPone

Tony Award-winning actress Patti LuPone describes the ups and downs of the theatre, from becoming a star in Evita, to negotiating a flop in Sunset Boulevard, to reinventing Mrs. Lovett in the 2005 revival of Sweeney Todd. She also insightfully remarks on the differences between the experiences available for actress for her generation, the generation before her, and the generation after.

Not sure why so many folks don't like the interviewer...I think she does an excellent job asking interesting questions and I love how Patti honestly shares her hurt and sadness at not having being chosen or having been fired from a role. I totally dug this interview of my favorite Broadway performer...her albums are excellent also!

I think Pattie has the technique, along with so many other bright performers on the stage, that are capable of making musicals, plays, and even modern operas, popular and intriguing to an entirely new audience and a world of new theatre goers.

The interviewer is annoying, at best and Patti is so gracious to put up with her. Patti is a class act, she is multi talented and such a gift to us. I Have seen her in War Paint and Company in London and several concerts...I could see her every day and be so happy! She is not only the best in her business, she is a kind, thoughtful and honest person. I so admire her for who she is!

She is an immense talent. She is also a bully, not too bright and couldn't. be more dishonest. she needs to stay in her lane and not push vaccines and masking which those of US in healthcare know do nothing but she as an actor suddenly thinks she is an expert. It' gets tiring.

Winer leaves a lot to be desired as an interviewer. She appears not to have done any research, or cursory research at best. Worse, she interrupts before LuPone finishes answering the previous question. LuPone was gracious to put up with this. Did Winer just get a new kicky haircut? She keeps shaking her hair as if to show it off. Finally, if she’s going to interview someone of the professional accomplishment of a Patti LuPone, she needs to do more than just make like Kentucky Fried, winging it.

I just love Patti. It’s a shame that new original musicals are being financed. Todays shows are just stage versions of trashy movie comedies starring pretty superficial blondes singing pop songs. Patti is one of the Greats. Young people don’t have much to look forward to, just trashy staged movies. Such a shame.

@@Strode78 she is not. She is immensely talented but she is also very full of herself, not very bright and a bully to boot. Met her more than once and even spent 10 minutes chatting with her in her dressing room. When she waded into pushing her ignorant politics and bullying people I lost all respect for her.
