Thank you for this fascinating portrait of great Lithuanian women. One woman who should be added is Madeleine Avietenaite (1893-1983) who served as head of the Lithuanian Red Cross, head of the Lithuanian Information Service, and Commissioner-General of the Lithuanian Pavilion at the New York World's Fair in 1939. During the German occupation of Lithuania, she and Father Stasys Yla published samizdat newspapers on the upper floors of a building in Kaunas that was being used as a medical dispensary treating Nazi soldiers. She escaped in advance of the Soviet reoccupation of the country, spent time in a German DP camp, and made her way to the United States, where she was born in 1893. She taught at several colleges, and then retired to East Putnam, CT, where, in retirement, she became librarian to the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. She is buried in the convent cemetery, along with Father Yla who, for many years, served as priest to the Sisters. She stands as one of the remarkable woman in Lithuania during the inter-war period.

Hi Madam Edita, Am James Aaron, Great job, thank you for the information. I love Lithuania ladies, they are so cultured. I am looking for one to date and even marry and settle in their country. Please advice me. I currently base here in Abu Dhabi UAE. Am planning to relocate there someday. Thank you
