Woman Prepper In a Class C

Today we meet a woman who has an interest in combining two of the things she is most interested in, Living in an RV and preparing for disaster by adopting the principles of prepping, survival and survivalism. Today we ask "Is that possible?" Like so many things in life, the answer is a grey area of yes, maybe.

    Kim's enthusiasm is contagious. Learning about what plants there are to eat and how to prepare them is a huge key to survival. I would recommend any books by Sam Thayer. Also look into the concept of "rewilding" because just stockpiling dry food in the event of a catastrophe is not going to work for long. "A New Path" by Arthur Haines is an interesting read on the subject. Also note that wild food is more nutritionally dense and actually tastes better than the food you buy in stores.

    It is also good to plant at least a small garden each year if you can from heirloom seeds because the seeds from those plants can be replanted for a new garden,

    We have been serious preppers for years. We are also getting into RVing. Not full time, but several months at a time. But I have never been able to figure out how to combine the two, because of ONE thing. Gasoline! I could have a year's worth of food, etc, in my RV, so when the dollar crashes, which I believe it will, I will have what I need. But if I'm in an RV and the dollar crashes, gasoline will not be available. I will have a range of a couple hundred miles (if I'm lucky), then I'll be out of gas. I'll be stuck in a parking lot someplace - probably someplace NOT of my choosing - to try to ride out the emergency, which could last for months (or years) until the economy recovers and the monetary system is re-established. I've never figured out an answer to the gasoline problem with prepper RVing! Any ideas?

    Tinyhouse Prepper In an SHTF, I’d think being mobile would make one more of a target to marauders. You’re exposed to potential flat tires, mechanical failures, fuel running out, over heating, small arms fire into your vehicle, etc ... Being hunkered down in a house, in a neighborhood full of like minded individuals would be best. In a co-op setting: you can all farm your backyards, barter amongst each other, defend each other and have companionship. 🔥 Bug out is DANGEROUS in a collapse setting. If I had to do it, it would not be alone in “lone wolf” fashion.

    People here in the US live a fear filled life, and the media make sure we stay that way. But there are also real disasters that happen here that don't necessarily happen in Danmark, Norge og Sverige. Thinks like tornadoes, wildfires, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes to name just a few. Plus we have a crazy man running the show in DC, hellbent on destroying this country. People will likely get their underpants in a knot with me saying that last bit, but it's true. I know I am on edge and preparing for any eventuality. I also live in earthquake country so I like to tell other people I prep for that reason, but it's the crazy man and what he might do that I really prep for.

    I understand how the system functions and how vulnerable it really is. It came close to collapsing in 2008 and things are even more unstable now. The biggest concern I have is fuel availability. I worry about getting stuck in a location that is unlivable, especially in the Southwest. Most of us can only carry enough fuel to get 300-500 miles. For example, if the SHTF during the RTR, how far are we all going to get? I see few areas that are actually sustainable, mainly in the Northern tier of states. Most of the SW and SE was not really livable to a large extent until various technologies (irrigation, A/C, ect.) came along.

  • @Ekinnajay

    @Ekinnajay

    5 жыл бұрын

    I thought the same. But in the north, you have to contend with the weather and making sure you have a rig that is super insulated and that you have a reliable heat source that isn't contingent on fossil fuel.

    @@Ekinnajay 3 things that many northern areas have that are critical. Ability to grow food (good consistent water supply), wood, and low crime/stable populations. Avoid any areas near thesouthern border for sure. Too many problems. On both sides of it.

    I am a prepper and the one place where preppers fall short is they don't actually learn to use what they have. Gadget collectors in some cases. The RV lifestyle will give anyone a head start should a collapse come. The only place RVers might have it hard is by not having enough fuel to get where they want to be. I've looked at several options in that regard and I could easily store a years food in a typical RV of above average size. Find a place near fresh water and she'd have it made.

    Here in Fayetteville NC this time of year I start gathering non perishable foods, water and other supplies to last at least a month because I know in September it is more than likely the storms are coming and they seem to be getting worse every year, Also made sure my house was sitting on high ground since when the hurricanes hit most of Fayetteville is always under water. My kids joke about how many candles I own until the electric goes out for up to two weeks and they are knocking at my door for extra candles, I can no longer be nomadic due to health issues but a lot of these ideas translate well into living off grid when the utilities go out, I think it helps that I was brought up on a rural farm where gardening hunting and fishing were a way of life, I feel for the younger generation who thinks everything magically appears on the store shelf in times of major disaster, I suggest people also save books on gardening, homesteading and how to fix technology. My son has a saying in times of disaster he with the most books win because that person will actually have a guide to how to get things working again.

    I think everyone is worried but the fact is we really had an economic crash in 2010 , the banks, hospitals, fanny mae,. General motors where all bailed out by the government. So it already happened and we did get help, it wasn't fast, but I had a fanny mae loan, and received help to save my house, I also received emergency unemployment and retraining for work. Yes we are scared but I am thankful for my help. So I think the prepping is too costly, save your cash, do things for today, we don't know what tomorrow holds.

    shaggard12 , Bob has spoke about Caravans. I just watched a series about the caravan that went to Baja after RTR. The caravan actually has a ‘Wagon Master’ (leader). There was also a rear gunner. This is the last person in the caravan who watches for vehicles that want to pass the other vehicles in the caravan. It was so interesting to me how it was organized and then there was the scenery of Baja. Very cool!

    I think the idea is to be more prepared than the "other" folks :) The reality is that if things go south (not saying they will), it won't be an instantaneous transition (look at the declines in Latin America right now) and being mobile will enable freer movement and more options than others will have. That freedom of movement and underlying knowledge may be a deciding factor in protecting oneself and family. Plus with some of the rigs (trailer ones especially), they can just be dropped in a safer location away from most of the drama/violence/excitement.

  • @Ekinnajay

    @Ekinnajay

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@patrickcallahan2210 You are only free to move if you have gasoline/diesel, and you are limited by space to store prepped goods, and a place to grow food. The only advantage I can see is when the SHTF that you are on public lands or can get there with one tank of gas, far from cities, that offer foraging and hunting as well as water, and you have solar power and a heat source and own your rig outright.

  • @patrickcallahan2210

    @@Ekinnajay I would find it hard to believe that in whatever the vehicle range is, there would be NO fuel... It's not like the fuel will vanish in an instant for any kind of situation where having Prepper style vehicle would actually be of use. The idea is that the RV/Van/Trailer would allow for a safer and more controlled exit with supplies ready at hand. If you use the reasoning that 1 tank of fuel is all you get, then I would suspect a Prius with several 5 gallon jugs (or towing a small fuel trailer) would be a great choice to flee in.

  • @donwyates

    Just a wild guess here - I suspect it would depend on your thirst (you & your vehicle) & overall preparedness. What does your vehicle (and you) consume, and do you have alternate vehicles? How much reserve do you have on hand - how much stashed in various strategic locations? Do you have a "final destination" (and a plan B?)? I suspect a rather huge factor is, how bad is the situation "out there"? Our current occupant in the WH could, conceivably, FUBAR the whole kit & kaboodle. TEOTWAWKI!

    I think you can enjoy prepping just as a hobby. Or a kind of fantasy. It's unlikely to ever be needed or help you to really survive, but I think there is a kind of instinct for it. During the evolution of our species I bet some individuals of the tribe just went a bit crazy about prepping and staying out somewhere by themselves even if it's not really beneficial for them. But then sometimes a catastrophe happens and it pays off at least some survive. That's why I think it's just a trait that survived and why people like the idea of prepping.

    Ruthie Rocchio I agree, I’d think being mobile would make one more of a target to marauders.

Could you please tell me if insurance will be the same as a car. Do I tell the insurance company that I turned it into a camper to receive a discount? If you have any info on this subject I would appreciate it. Can't afford a motor home so trying for the next best thing. Thanks for all your informative videos! Have a great day!

    I was raised in a poor family and was taught to always have basic supplies on hand like flour and sugar and canned goods. As an adult using wisdom I have continued this thought, only I keep more on hand than my mother did. Enough for at least 3 months without income. I was really disappointed that this video did not take us inside her rig to see how prepping is done from her viewpoint. How much and what kind of supplies does she have?

    Still watching the video now and this is related but sort of indirectly: do you happen know if campgrounds allow you to bring pet laying hens? (Yes, there are chicken leashes-and also portable enclosures). I figure you’ve seen an awful lot and might be able to say if you’ve seen anyone do it. I imagine it would be more of an ask each campground basis and probably private campgrounds rather than public, and that is okay if that is what I would have to do. thanks in advance for any info you may have, and for reading my comment! 💖

    Speaking of hard times does anyone recall the Great Recession.? You lost your job, your retirement account tanked and you couldn’t make your mortgage payments. Doing a little research you will see that greed was the fuel for that catastrophe. The folks who talk about “fiat money” need to explain what is the suggested replacement that would be practical in the next economic catastrophe. With the price of gold at $1200 an ounce the average person would be struggling to acquire a hoard that would last more than a few months. Assuming that you could get a fair exchange in necessities for gold. Probably the most important “prepper” concern would be where to live during Armageddon that didn’t have extremes in temperatures and a safe long term water supply. Start watching expat in Mexico videos. This might meet that criteria.

    Silver and gold are also a currency and it only has value if we put value on it and if there is enough of a society left where gold would have any value. I think if the SHTF and I was in dire straits, and you offered me a wheelbarrow full of gold and a wheelbarrow full of rice and beans, I would pick the latter. Gold is worthless when you have nothing to eat.

In addition to Half a basement of prepper foodstuffs it’s now legal to possess enough weed to get through any catastrophe in a state of bliss. America has come so far in the last 20 years.
